I have a Tyco Canadiana Alco C430. I would like to upgrade the loco to DCC command control. I believe the 'power torque' motor is too much for a DCC decoder. That being said, a completely new drive system is preferred. I've heard an Atlas U23b chassis is a snug fit? Some say an Athearn U33? I'm not sure. Has anyone ever upgraded a Tyco C430? What chassis did you use? What modifications to the shell did you have to make?

Chris here's a link to a MU I DCC's a while back. It runs well, I've also done a PT. I dont think there's a step by step but I have a video I can post a link to as well. Second link has a video of my GP 20 PT DCC'd, I recently added the Dash motorsport magnet s to it as well. It runs great.

PT/DCC/Tsunami Sound System. That'd be worth paying admission to see.

I decided to buy a “Hobbytown of Boston” kit and modify the shell to fit the chassis. I’ll then DCC it. Should be fun.

You can see how I rebuilt my C430 using an Athearn mechanism.
Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the thread to see the detail photographs and parts list.
