I have been thinking of this for a while and had time today to try out DCC on a MU power trucks.
I started with the truck removed from the shell.
I removed the screw that helps holds the brush plate in place.
I bent the brush contact up 90 degrees from the plate. This isolates the motor from the brushes.
Next I wired the black decoder wire to the rear truck, the red wire to a ring terminal and secured it using the screw from the brush contact plate, the gray wire was soldered to the bent brush contact, and last the orange wire was soldered to the front brush contact.
Last thing was the light. The blue and white wires from the decoder were soldered, blue to the light holder and white to the bottom bulb contact.
The decoder I used is a Digitrax DZ123. It's a small decoder and fits nicely in the shell. It looks like a standard HO decoder like a DH123 will fit but I like the compact size of the Z scale decoders. I ran the loco on the layout. The MU I picked for this growls a bit but the growl subsides the longer the unit runs. I'll try to get a little run time on video later this week.

No reason it shouldn't work, Tom. The only thing is that MU-2 motors aren't as consistent speed-wise as newer locos with can motors, so the speed steps could fluctuate a bit.

Nelson, it runs faily smooth for what it is. I agree with you, the newer can motors are much better for DCC. The MU runs as well or slightly better then the PT I DCC'd a while back. I wanted to see how each would run now that my layout is DCC and I have lots of Tyco's. This shell has rear lights and number boards so I added a rear light. The second video is my lame attempt at running it slowly, so in the beginning of the video thats me controlling the speed, no a bad contact or connection.

Yep, low speed control is pretty nonexistent. At least you can run it on a DCC'ed layout now, although it looks like the crew set off a signal flare in the cab.
Very nice layout and train room, btw.

I should have replaced the light, it is very brite. Thanks for the comment on the room and layout. Still have a few things to finish on the layout, although I dont think it'll ever be finish. There's always something to add.
Here's a short video of the loco pulling 8 cars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lo3nWMydlOk
