Got another DCC-equipped locomotive!
Bachmann FTA Santa Fe Warbonnet diesel.
I also upgraded my Proto 1000 F3A with a TCS A4X decoder, and it so far works pretty well! (But I need to replace the bulb though...) So now in total I have three DCC-equipped locomotives on my layout. Now I'll probably get set to work on upgrading my Walthers Trainline locomotives (need to get the decoders for them first!)

That's for sure!

Showing some multiple-train action. My sidings are starting to come along; now I just need to buy another left-hand switch!

So I installed a Life-Like lighted bumper on a small siding...

Griswold crossing signal! I'm planning on getting a controller/detector for this crossing (maybe a Logic Rail Tech "Grade Crossing Pro")...
My newest locomotive: an early 1990s Bachmann Plus Santa Fe Consolidation steam locomotive and tender!

That layout is looking marvelous, Wiley. It's looking more and more like one of those cool H0 scale layouts that I see at train shows a lot. Keep up the good work!

They can easily be bought from Walthers.com. That's where I got mine :D I'm probably going to get the Logic Rail Tech Grade Crossing Pro for that crossing, as it's DCC-compatible (I'm going for the photocell version, since I have consistent overhead lighting anyways.) Judging by the photo:
I'm wondering how I'll install it. I was hoping I could just screw it under the table.

I tried experimenting with an elevated track on my layout...

While an interesting concept, it was rather cumbersome to try and fit on the layout anyways. I may revive it for any future layouts...
I have now connected the two spurs to the rest of the track! One of them is electrically-isolated, using an Atlas Connector switch, terminal joiner and plastic insulating joiner. This way I can park a non-DCC locomotive on the layout with ease.

 Current overview.

Wild deer are now on the layout, too! They're Model Power figures. I wonder who's going to continue making them now?

 TYCO Lighted Factory.
Nice shot of a couple of my trains from the control panel. I removed the smoke unit from the Bachmann Pluss Consolidation steam locomotive, since I learned that smoke and HO-scale track do not mix.
Action overview with the factory on the layout.

Life-Like Hotel building. This has been available since 1980. I bought the kit new from Walthers!
 A.H.M./TYCO Pizza Hut building!
A nice shot of the town section of the layout.
Getting in some more Amtrak action!

Got another Center St. series building kit for the layout:
The Miracle Furniture Company store! This one is branded by TYCO, and has a small hole in the bottom so I can feed a light bulb through it (I'm thinking of illuminating the interior.)
Did some weathering to the TYCO Piggyback loader/unloader. It did make it appear a bit more realistic...
The school is still in session for two more weeks, after which it will let out for summer vacation! (I will temporarily remove the school bus, and move the figures to different parts of the layout, until September.)
New motive power meets old! That Bachmann Plus Consolidation steam engine I will probably not bother to install DCC in, as it doesn't even have any wiring! (Though as I said, I removed the smoke unit, as I learned that steam locomotive smoke can easily dirty the tracks.)

Chief:
Really like your layout. It's so colorful. I love color.
The Belvedere (aka sometimes 'Railroad Hotel' kit) is actually older than 1980! I think it goes back to the late 60s, along with the Mt Vernon Mfg Co kit. Tru-Scale sold them for a while, and Ulrich may have had them before that. The modular design is neat, and I don't know why they didn't try to make a few more kits in that style.
How is that Bachmann FT insofar as pulling power? I've been curious about that.

Pretty good so far! It seems like a strong reliable locomotive for something in the lower-end spectrum of Bachmann (current low-end that is, nothing like their 1970s and 1980s locomotives!)
Here's a nice "night" shot of the layout as well...

And some people pulling stupid stunts as well (somebody call Operation Lifesaver!)

Life-Like Car Wash building. Atlas now offers this, but I went with the Life-Like version as it was a cheaper buy :D

Now I am running three trains on my layout! Since the BNSF Dash 8-40BW is not DCC-equipped yet, I park that train on my isolated siding when not in use.

Performed a DCC hardwire upgrade on my Walthers Trainline BNSF Dash 8-40BW...
Progress photo. In lieu of a soldering iron, I used "Wire Glue," as I learned that it's a good solder substitute from some model railroaders.
I used a TCS T1 decoder, since this locomotive comes with a reversing headlight. Works pretty well, too, but the electrical contact is a little funny. But it was like that when I got it. I guess the wheels need extensive cleaning... I programmed it as "6" on the E-Z Command controller. My other DCC locomotives are numbered "2," "4" and "5", which brings up to four DCC locos in my roster now! I will be getting another T1 decoder to install in my Amtrak Dash 8 locomotive, as well as a TCS MC2 decoder to put in my second Proto 1000 F3A locomotive. (I will assign it the same address as my other Proto 1000 F3A, if I ever want to do a double-header unit.)

Time for some more updates!
TYCO Operating Pipe Loader (1982 version.)
 TYCO Machine Shop building.
Three trains, rearin' and ready to go!
I also bought one of those Life-Like SceneMaster "Scene Essentials" sets, the farm one, to enhance the small farm on my layout. Only problem is, nowhere to put the crops!
The school has let out for the summer! I will probably temporarily disconnect the light until September (unless they decide to keep them on during the day to protect from burglary!)
Two kids preparing to camp out in their backyard.
 Overview from another angle.

Just a suggestion: If you have some lower-voltage power source, it would make the light bulb last many times longer and keep it to a brightness that mostly just shows through the windows and not so much the walls.
Either way, that's a cool layout! I like all the scenes and accessories you have. It's a busy layout with much to see.

Sorry it's been a while, but I've had to catch up with work and go to a couple of conventions. But now I'm back! As I've mentioned, with the upcoming model railroad museum, the owner got a box of old A.H.M. and TYCO stuff and had me test some of the locomotives from it. I initially ran most of them on my test loop (an oval of Power-Loc track), and then I decided to show them off on my layout, to make them look like they were passing through my town on their way to the museum, like with some real trains!
 The Spirit of '76!
The locomotive has a Mantua MU-2 drive in it, too!
 Midnight Special locomotive and caboose.

Unlike the others, these were made by A.H.M.

More trains on their way to the museum!
TYCO Inter City train set. Unfortunately the locomotive is the PowerTorque version, and the motor still squeaks a bit, even after I oiled and lubed it. Maybe it needs to be broken in more? On my layout, this would serve as a special excursion train by Amtrak for the museum.
 Another shot of the train.

I plan to paint my Walthers Merchant's Row building once I get the time. I might add black and gray trim while leaving the brick walls reddish-brown, to make it resemble similar old buildings in my hometown.

Summer's over on my layout, and the kids are going back to school. Plus, from what I read in the new Walthers sales catalog, autumn is also often when model railroaders get back to their layouts. (I certainly do!)

Everyone prepare to get jealous! I bought a TYCO Burger King building kit on eBay! Wasn't cheap too: cost me $50, but it's not that bad since I've have a decent good-paying job for almost six months now! I plan to put it next to my TYCO Crossing Gate, so it can be like this Burger King in Bridgewater that was formerly a train station:
Except the other side of the crossing has a combination cantilever/gate setup, like many MBTA-owned railroad crossings in my area. Maybe I'll get something like that for the other side of the crossing (once I also wire LEDs into the TYCO signal!)

The Burger King is done!
I might put some kind of glazing glass/plastic in the windows though, to make it look more realistic, and pave a road for the back entrance to the drive-thru.
One of my current freight train roster lineups, with two ATSF "Shock Control" boxcars (one Life-Like, one TYCO) and two TYCO piggyback trailer cars.
Rail yard shot. I also just got a TYCO Baby Ruth boxcar; you'll find it here.

I might put some kind of glazing glass/plastic in the windows though, to make it look more realistic, and pave a road for the back entrance to the drive-thru. Originally posted by wiley209Â -Â September 06 2014Â :Â 6:50:11 PM

I have the Tyco Burger King and it's a really ugly building kit. Needs a ton of painting and detail to look good...

Maybe try painting it with white walls and a blue roof like modern burger kings?

OK, am going to try this now...
Here's the finished Burger King so far.

That definitely looks like "Tycomania" to me. Looks nice though!

I dig that rock wall. Great room for a layout Wiley. I remember having a layout in the basement of this one house we had when I was like 13. Dark little dungeon where I first experimented with plaster and screen hills and scratch building. Cool to see the cars lit up.

Here's a couple!

The tracks used to have concrete ties, as seen here, but in 2010 they replaced them with wooden ties.
