Not sure this is funny or crazy, but it sure is interesting. It looks like a Tyco SD24 kitbashed to look like a Baldwin road switcher

I spotted this auction and found the "Toy Stoer" to be a kind of funny. Well , I thought it was a typo but as I searched on in Tyco trains, I found several of this seller's auctions with the same spelling! ... http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRAINS-ACCESSORIES-LIONEL-TYCO-MORE-1-OF-18-DIFFERENT-LOTS-FROM-TOY-STOER-/140895769349?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item20ce0ad305

Speaking of spelling, this guy is driving me nuts. He lists almost every motor as "UNKNOWEN?" It's not exactly an obscure word.

Nelson, Thats too funny! Unknown, AND has it marked as a Rivarossi motor.....WELL its not even to far fetched as it looks to be a 0-4-0 motor, as it has a worm gear on the motor shaft.....I don't think the diesels that had them mounted vertical would fit that motor so......any one of the 0-4-0's it work in!

John, he just writes "unknowen" when he doesn't know which loco it goes to. It's definitely not for the 0-4-0, which has a much larger worm, but it is the earlier large BB motor used in those and the 0-8-0 & 2-8-0. It might be from a European loco we haven't seen.

Nelson, The shifters I have has a small worm like that......and the motor is the same too! I'll have to see what year it is but yes the 0-4-0 Docksiders it would fit in, BUT the mount would have to be bent inward! The little Shifter I have with tender (I got 4 of them) all have that same set up! Small worm, and the mount is tweaked inward, to lower the mount enough to mesh the worm to the axle gear!

The 0-4-0 worm is smaller on the round motors, since they could be mounted at an angle due to the shape of the motor, but still not as small as what's pictured. The square motors can only sit upright in the cab, which is why the worm in their day was quite large.
Also, that larger ball bearing motor was only used in the early Docksides with plastic frames, and the mounting screws went up into it through the frame under the cab.
Edit: A-ha, got it. I should have known. It's the 60's European side tanker, so it is an 0-4-0.

Nelson, I had to go backl and look again, that is a rather large square motor, to go into a 0-4-0, if it sat vertical it work.....However the 4 Shifters I have, have a narrow square motor in them (well I should say 2 of them do, anyway as the other 2 I replaced with can motors fitted much the same way, as the originals did not run so....
But the square motors I have in these are little narrow things, compared to that seen in that auction....
So, we were both wrong on 2 different notes as it was an 0-4-0, BUT wasn't the Dockside or the Shifter....But, a Euro model from Rivarossi!

Well, I did say it might be a European loco we haven't seen, and they were marketed on both side of the pond, sooo... I have a couple of them, so I'm surprised it didn't occur to me. Almost all you come across have missing steps or cracked shells, since they were pretty cheaply built.
http://www.rivarossi-memory.it/ENGLISH_VERSION/Riva_American_Locos/Riva_0-4-0_Eng.htm
It could also be from the 0-6-0 European side tanker that was sold here with Erie markings. The only way they could shoehorn those big motors into the cab was by mounting them face down.

First an interesting auction by the former owner of Hobbytown. Two partially kitbashed shells... interesting use of a GP20 cab.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Two-Unusual-Body-Shell-Projects-GE-Heavy-Switcher-EMD-RS-1325-Need-Finishing-/200874381906
This next one is just pathetic. It's been up for months. The black shell made me think for a moment it was a 50's Rivarossi Bakelite version, but nooo... it ain't. It's the cheapest Mehano version with the rear wheels and truck gearing missing, and the roof has been slathered with red paint... or maybe ketchup?

Now I'm going to have to ring in here and risk losing all the "buddies" I have made on this forum...
Yes some of it is really funny, for example, when I first began doing the research on all of my stock I saw TONS of auctions for the 62' common reefers that we all know and love being priced at between 30-50 dollars on reserve, and even when I was "train ignorant" I knew those were pipe dreams.
However, as someone who stumbled into a mess load of trains with absolutely NO knowledge of what I was getting myself into, I can speak from experience that it's hard to know what to do when you come across something like this.
Thankfully, I am lucky enough to be a stay-at-home mom with some extra time to do research and THANKFULLY I found this forum and Tony Cook and Tony Lucio. But you have to understand that not everyone has the time to join forums and build relationships with people to get some honesty.
I can see both sides because I LIVE both sides! As a seller you want to get the most you can for your stuff and as a buyer you want to get the best deal. Sure, there are some greedy b@st@rds who will try to rip each other off...as I'm sure more than one of you has experienced, but there are also good people just trying to do right by themselves (or in my case, my grams). It's easy to sit back and laugh at another man's ignorance or another man's greed but haven't we ALL felt both of those things at one time or another?
I know that when I first started selling on here I got my fair share of lowball offers on one thing or another and let me tell you, that hurt, to know someone was trying to benefit from naitivity. That's part of the reason why I listed myself as "male" at first. I think, for me, the worst part was going into this with enough knowledge to be confident in my asking prices and generous enough to do little favors here and there.
I'm not mad that you all are having a josh, everyone loves a good laugh. But to make fun of or take advantage of a nice person who just happens to be a little bit dumb is just plain ol' mean. :(
No accusations or offence intended, I just ask that you take a step back and try to think about how you would feel on either side. Sometimes, it doesn't feel too great and it NEVER feels good to be laughed at maliciously or taken advantage of buying OR selling ;)

The seller explains the high price in the description.

"Q: Why is an item priced at $9999.99? A: Because we do not inventory our items, we rely on our suppliers to keep their inventory up to date. When we are notified that an item is very low or completely out of stock, we update our price to $9999.99 to prevent someone from paying for it. Once the item is back in stock, the price will return to normal, or if it is out of stock for good, the item will be removed."
I don't have a one track mind. It depends on the turn-out. "I love your catenary!" Is that a power-trip or just another pick-up line?

Still what's the point of listing it then?

Exactly! Why list the item? Must be feeding on Ebay's free listing service....

Makes sense to me, I've done that before. This is a good till cancelled listing, it renews itself every 30 days. By setting the price beyond what the item is worth, it controls idiots from hitting Buy It Now without contacting you first. In this case, it's just to prevent someone from buying an out of stock item and then leaving bad feedback. It just saves them the effort of removing, and relisting, the item.
A lot of eBay accounts now get restricted for no reason, and can only list so many items at a time. Keeping a placeholder ensures that if the item comes back into inventory, there is still a listing to sell it.
And with even one bad feedback hurting an account pretty badly these days, you have to do what you can to control people's ability to leave it.

I went digging through the American ebay to see what things have been going for recently. A three car Tyco Union Pacific passenger set sold for over $400 back in December O____O I mean, I get that it's boxed and near mint but...that's more than the Talgos sell for

@Zombievickers - I know you have gotten some lowball offers (some of them have come from me) - lowball offers are fine - I'm just cheap. I get some of my offers on occasion. I picked up a complete set of 20 Norman Rockwell pencil prints that usually sell for $25 each in mint shape for only $100 the other day, because I saw someone selling them for $500 and hadn't sold for 3 months. Lowball is fine, outright cheating, no. You, on the other hand, can DOCUMENT why it's rare - pre-production sample - hand-decaled, it's the same one in the catalog - THAT is rare. It's the people who claim "rare" on everything that is just wrong just to try to get a high price.
@NickelPlate - the stupid thing about the Craigslist post on the radio is it looks to be in good shape and $100 might be an okay deal for the radio! LOL But the lack of any spelling whatsoever (masheen? really?) and idiot story are hilarious. I can't believe what our schools turn out these days. My son is only 19 months but he's starting on his ABCs - same as I did at his age, and we work with him DAILY. There is really no excuse for a child to be neglected to that point. Teachers and parents are to blame for that one. Leave the child behind for once! When I was in school, that red pen of shame surely was a motivator!
@CamdenLine - so I asked the seller in the $9999.99 Bachmann Track Cleaning Car exactly what SCVR66 didn't - "Are you smoking crack?"
Fun start to the day....

So I got a response - "Be nicer and read my FAQs." No need to read when you charge $10K for a track cleaning car!
