I cannot even begin to say how much I have learned from this forum that Todd created. Reading over the posts from so many well informed members willing to share their knowledge has been very enlightening. My interest has become 50's Tyco and older Mantua. There is no better or extensive information anywhere else. If you are reading this - Thanks Todd aka New York Central.

It is truly an amazing site. I never would have imagined becoming so interested in Tyco/Mantua stuff either, but I have - through what I have learned about here.

| I've never thought about it before, but if it wasn't for this site my collection probably would have gone in a completely different direction. Thanks for everything Todd!

It seems the TF started out as a sort of prank, but today it stands as a foremost site for every model train head to share their work, their enthusiasm, their humor in a democratic way that could never be found in the Glossy Mags. It is a brilliant achievement and empowers every "average Joe," and quite a few above average Joes, to demonstrate and share their knowledge that would otherwise never, ever come to the light of day. Thank you Todd, from all of us, to whom you gave so much.

Another nice feature of this forum is that even though it's name promotes the Tyco brand trains, it allows all the others to be mixed in with and accepted along with the Tyco brand, even some gauge variations from N to O. While all trains have their foibles, and some deserve at least some scorn for poor quality, the fact that there aren't flame wars over Bachmann vs Life-Like vs Tyco comparted to AThearn, Atlas, Walthers, Con-Cor is pretty amazing, and that members try to help fix, upgrade, repair, and appreciate ALL brands, no matter their individual failings. I can't think of another Forum in which there is so much acceptance of everything from Brass to high-end down to the Power-Torque driven and the hoppin' Playart locos . It's one reason I enjoy this particular venue so much, there is little strife over a particular brand, everyone seems to accept the vast universe of model trains and their ardent followers.
In case it's been ignored, I'd like to thank ALL members who lurk, participate, and contribute here, because we all make up this vast diaspora of modeling knowledge, and sharing it with one another only increases the pleasure we all get from learning new ideas and techniques to use in our own piece of the TF universe. Having such a hassle-free experience coming online here time after time to pick up new knowledge, read other's posts of their recent, current, or past experiences, is always a relaxing and enjoyable time ( for me, anyway ). I'm sure most of you agree, or you wouldn't keep coming back and posting again and again.
I for one hope that the recent changes don't negatively affect the Forum, change is always uncertain and uneasy at first, so we shall, as they say, "wait and see". Long as the good folk here who are regulars, and the occasional chimers-in who throw out some comments, are willing to give it the benefit of the doubt and keep plugging ( and typing ) away, I'm sure this Forum will be a continued positive asset for many years to come. IT's always sad when a few shysters and slick-williys come along and cause problems ( I just found out I was an unknowing victim of a former member who has vanished off the Forum, I sent him some stuff, and never heard back from him again ). Well, I won't let it stop me from enjoying this Forum, or the 99% who are NOT that type of negative person! I've gained FAR more on this Forum than I lost sending some junkbox parts and broken engines to someone who will never return them. I refuse to let that dampen my enthusiasm for sharing and conversing with many other modelers who are on here.
So, in conclusion, we'll keep the steam-box of conversation hot, stoke the boiler with lots of good content, and hopefully pull into the next station satisfied that we got some good stuff out of our last sign-ins. I'm still "in" on the TF, and I hope that a little change won't be such a put-off that too many people pull out. This Forum is WAY too important to let a few rules changes and a couple miscreant members ruin it for everyone else. High-ball, baby! Lets go!

I'm okay with Tyco, Bachmann, Life Like, etc as long as it runs and/or the freight cars have good potential. And usually all those "cheap" freight cars need is some weathering, truck upgrades, and modern knuckle couplers, and modern model railroaders should accept it okay. I usually go with just weathering.

I echo your sentiment as well, Jerry. Sometimes, though, I feel guilty not posting more Tyco stuff. I'll remedy that soon. Again, well said.

Ditto Jerry. This forum seems to be a nice mixture of collectors, arm chair model railroaders and casual model railroaders, serious model railroaders and even a few model railroad historians. From 40's Mantua brass kits to 90's Tyco A Team. A pretty impressive / extensive range of interests to say the least.

And, since this started with covering one manufacturer, nobody can complain about Mantua Couplers. Little light weathering...actually, extremely heavy weathering, so bad no lettering was visible at all...mostly removed. Dave

| I have been a member of this forum since May 2012 and from that time I have learned more than I ever have anywhere else with the exception to "Going in Circlez". I love this site and that is why I feel so bad because of what it is going through. Yes, at time there was B.S. going on between some of the members but I was able to blow past right through it. I think we all need to do a little better and dig deep and find out what each of us can do to better this site. In the three years I have been here I have seen some good guys with a wealth of knowledge leave the site and once the new owner is identified, hopefully he can some how send an email out to those guy and let them know things are under new management. And even though it kills me to say this, "I think we need to focus on more of what this forum is about, TYCO and Mantua". I admit, I don't post as much as I first did because it seemed to me we were getting away from TYCO, but hopefully we can do something about that. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with other manufactures, but I think TYCO should be the driving force behind everything we do.

I feel the same way GG-1! I joined here mainly for learning more about Tyco. If I never found this forum, my HO collection may have went in a totally different direction!

I'd find that idea easier to jump on if there was a comparable site on which to find the eclectic mix we have here in the just plain fun culture we have here. Lacking that, I'm kind of glad we have a place to discuss the other brands, as well.
I also think there's some cross-pollination going on. The folks who repower Tyco shells with other mechanisms and vice versa provide another way to enjoy Tyco. Tyco means a lot of different things to different people, and I enjoy seeing them all, here, from the collectors maintaining the originality of the piece to the kitbashers who find Mantua/Tyco a grand place to start.

I like the focus of the site just fine as-is. It's got a great mix of folks who enjoy all model trains without the snootiness factor that is commonly present on other model railroad forums. And I do frequent and enjoy other forums occasionally but really, in order to do that you have to swallow a good dose of the "that's junk it's not worth your time" comments, as well as "if you're not running DCC you can't enjoy your layout". I like the core of this site's identity being Tyco/Mantua, as it tends to keep us grounded in the spirit of fun. It's a great formula and it works - but yes a damn shame we have a few folks that seem to have abused the trust.

Thanks Todd. I do appreciate your making this site for all of us. I feel bad you sold it but life goes on. Thanks for your past action on keeping edit for my grammar is not all it should be, and you allowed me to correct grammar and replace bad photos. This may seem unimportant at times but even years after I posted in a topic I have found my mistakes I had made, and was able to correct them. I am certain in all the many posts I have made that there are others waiting for me to find and correct. I'll try to keep dotting my eyes and use correct spelling. And my out of focus badly positioned train photos will be changed to nicer ones for people to remember and enjoy. Thanks again. frank
