Yeah, it's an engine car. The work of a real genius.
If you're not an expert, why set an astronomical price? Why not check other auctions to see what they're selling for? It would take all of 5 minutes...

Interesting auction here. Has 4 Santa Fe piggyback trailers in it. 2 that I have never seen before... I have the several of the common white ones, but I've never seen or heard of, the "gay" version...

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

This guy has them all wrong:
about 2-3x actual value:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-Metal-Maine-Central-623-made-by-New-One-Model-Tokyo-Japan-/170893370763?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27ca09e58b
About 3x actual value:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-Brass-Locomotive-never-been-painted-no-name-on-it-just-a-number-2713-/170893384501?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27ca0a1b35
This one takes the cake though, being more than 10-15x it's actual value:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-St-Louis-Southwestern-70790-gravel-car-made-by-roundhouse-/170893386138?pt=Model_RR_Trains&hash=item27ca0a219a

Hey Nelson. Absolutely Varney, but in pretty rough shape. The diecast has lots of oxidation which will leave it pitted. I still value it ~$100 or maybe a little less.

Was it the Burlington Northern E60CF or Virginian E60CF that drove the price up? Either way, that's nutz as far as I am concerned!

Look at the condition of that Rock Island. I wouldn't even pay 4.00 dollars considering the apparent abuse that engine must have endured.

I know, John. Drinking and kitbashing are a dangerous combination. I should know when to say when.
It's a shame the paint finish is so poor, but you could easily substitute another Rivarossi or IHC shell. It really takes the Tyco idea to the ultimate extreme.

Good question, what did it sell for with all that on the DD40 frame? Not to mention what you said with the value of the motors and flywheels, but the pantographs too!

John, the auction link is under the photos. The final bid was $41.40, with $10 shipping.
Rivarossi pantographs now regularly sell for $35 a pair.

* using pennsy loco class defining terms and comparing what is said and what is seen. there is no GG or DD in this photo. G class is a 4-6-0. D class ia a american type 4-4-0. what you have here is 2, 4 axel trucks. that would make it a CC class.

Frank, Sorry, you didn't notice, those trucks, are 4 AXLE trucks! That makes them a "D" as a "B" is 2 axles, a "C" is 3 Axle, and a "D" is 4 axles in ONE truck!
Interesting classification tho, with the DD40 frame and trucks under a GG-1 shell.

I would have bought that for that price if I had seen it. I collect the Athearn DD40. In their stock form they are wonderful pullers. Add fly wheels and they get better. Add those motors and wow. With the Athearn ones I can pull 20 cars without fail up a 4% grade. Well worth it for the parts. Just add an Athearn DD-40 shell and run with it.
