That FM electric isn't a bad idea... needs tons of help though. The shell is junk, might as well throw it away and call it getting a GG1 for cheap.

I love the Tyco Coke box car but not for this price! I was surprised to see who the seller was and does he really think that this unboxed piece will merit the price?? I believe I have made a purchase from him at leats once.... Great seller, just too high on this one... http://www.ebay.com/itm/130962991105?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Nelson, Those bashed Jersey Central units look pretty good, specially the double ended BL-2, GG-1 I also see a set of FT A units there on the other unit....
That 3rd one is to be a FDL-109, I believe, BUT, I can't see what in the.....was used for the whole shell on that one.....
92, sold? IF they RAN it might be worth it! The frames look to be in overall pretty good shape, even the raspberry Bee's for weight!

The bottom CNJ is actually a fair representation of a real engine, CNJ had double-ended Baldwin cabs for commuter service, although they didn't last all that long (gone by the mid-60s at the latest IIRC).
THe middle one doesn't look bad either, although the CNJ never had a DL109.

What if the CNJ had a Krauss Maffei?

Krauss Maffei, just looks like an odd duck....INTERESTING tho, none-the-less.....Just odd! BUT, I likes 'em odd so!
As for the PA-1, doesn't look bad!
I wonder if this seller is actually, making these?
The paint on any of them so far, doesn't look bad! Better then some, I'VE seen!

John, The Krauss Maffei were odd. It was a German design with 2 MayBach V16 Engines for a total of 3450 HP. It also had diesel-hydraulic drives.
The units had two types of car bodies. There were cab types and road switchers.

The K-M turned Camera Car still exists and has been cosmetically restored, including fabricating the original nose. One of the engines may be able to be run again, the other is in bad shape.

Cars like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnabel_car
Are more like what would be needed to transport something that large. At that point, It is more realistic to just put it on the rails and tow it.

Yeah, I think a Big Boy might take a little more than 4 freight trucks to support. It would also put it seriously higher than the loading gauge, since they already scrape that at 16 1/2 feet. It already has it's own wheels, which is why they just move them dead-in-tow.

Any chance it being a Monogram model of the Big Boy? You'd think that most of the detail(s) would be cast-on instead of molded/moulded.
Relisted: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HO-WEATHERED-UNION-PACIFIC-4-8-8-4-BIG-BOY-STEAM-ENGINE-TENDER-TRAIN-ON-FLAT-CAR-/200957280491?
I am betting that it is a static Monogram plastic surgery 4-8-8-4. Looks good, but it'll never ply the rails in motion. I agree on the lacking support cars. But, plastic all around would support the reason it is as it is.
And decreased starting bid by $11.

There's no way anyone would ruin a very valuable big boy ie Rivarossi or Athearn and do that to it. Which is why I believe it's the cheap plastic put together static kits.

Stick around, sooner or later you'll see it.
Personally, I think the whole setup would be more convincing if the flat cars were not weathered the same as the loco. Or the chains for that matter.

John, Yeah, I thought the "odd" Krauss Maffei was an interesting set up..... the diesel or well (what the hell would you acknowledge this type loco?) runs much the same way a 18 wheeler does.....It doesn't have electric traction motors on the axles.....the diesels actually drive the wheels through a system of transfer gear boxes....
A lot of maintenance needed to keep them running tho!!!

Yeah that is a Revell Big Boy kit, you can see it just by looking at it! Dead give away? Cast on boiler walk hand rail!
As for the whole "load"... yeah a load of crap......It have the main rod removed, and would have been "in tow" to the dead line or scrappers torch....to heavy to be "hauled" plus.......I bet no normal "internal" bridge or tunnel would have clearance for that whole set up! Simply put, the scrapper would come to it. and hail it away in chunks anyway!

You would call it a diesel. The proper name for the typical American unit is diesel-electric, but that gets shortened to diesel, so it would be just as "correct" to call the K-M a diesel.

Glenn, Yeah....I was being a turd.....Its even more prototypically correct (not politically correct) to call the K-M a "diesel" as the other North American "diesels" are Diesel Electrics....

$500 bucks must be a bargain because it was "appraised for $1000 in the '90's".
1. The seller is lying. 2. The appraiser was his cousin. 3. The appraiser's fee was a percentage of the appraised value. 4. The seller didn't notice the decimal point in the appraisal ( $10.00)
I would offer the appraiser a chance to buy it for $200 dollars and make a huge profit for himself.

Thank god it's not one of those cheap reproductions. If it's worth that much with all those paint scratches and missing horns, then mine is worth a cool grand easy.
The account name suggests the seller is a female. Sounds like someone was pulling her leg.

I almost can't stand it to say, you missed a decimal point in that appraisal in the 90's.....I just can't tho!

She's listed that engine at least five times with slowly decreasting prices.
Looks like it would actually sell for like $20.

I have to say that NCS's line about the decimal point was a good one!

just asked the person,as even though its a female name, people use that method as a sympathy vote so to speak ken (can i ask in all seriousness, are you really asking 500 dollars for this loco, mint boxed ones fetch $100-150,sorry to burst the inflated bubble, notice its remained unsold from $900 to now) ken reply seller,I'm tired of explaining myself to people. The only reason it's on here for 500 is because its my fathers and he insists that's what I list it for. He's old and has Alzheimer's. my thoughts (i lean toward believing her)

Sadly enough this may be true, it sounds like shes not telling a story....HOWEVER even its "old" and it belonged to her father, that doesn't make it worth $500 NOR a cool $1,000 either.....
I am truly sorry that he has Alzheimer's, but that still doesn't make it any more or less valuable then it is!

Reminds me!
A long time ago, when I was in the Navy, I was trying to get back to base in an ice storm. Well the roads were bad and the traffic had stopped. The tow trucks were charging $25 to pull people back on the road. $25 was a lot back then.
Since we could not move forward, a group of travelers had banded together and were helping people get back on the road. I was helping this one car and was pissed because the guy was driving and his wife was out pushing. Well in a few minutes my frustration overruled my manners. I went around and asked the guy if he would mind getting out and pushing and letting his wife do the driving. He said "he would but he did not have any legs." I said Oh! I'm Sorry!
I guess it is wise not to criticize until the facts are all known, but I never learn.
