I have aquired these boxes of train stuff....on the cars they say tyco so I am hoping this group can shed some light. Possibly an idea of age and value too please. And maybe someone could educate me on how to attach a photo.
Wondering.....

Lorena, What you have pictured is not old enough to be collectable, but the good news is that the price of used trains has gone up lately. The price of new stuff is up, thus the value of used is up. I would suggest you use eBuy as a price guide. You will need to not only look at prices but if it sells. You could list the individual pieces or sell as a lot.
If you are looking for a simple way to sell. You could spread the stuff out, take pictures and ask the members here to make offers by pm (personal message) with the understanding you will consider the offers. Our trade part of the site has just been closed.
Regards, John

All fairly modern stuff. The oldest thing in there is probably about 30 years old (Tyco). They don't usually go for a ton but you can make money off of those things, I'm sure.

You have to look long and hard to find any mass-produced plastic model trains that hold any significant value after they are first sold. Doesn't mean there isn't....but the simple fact that everything I see with wheels is used, and no original boxes, instantly relegates those items to non-collectible. Buildings that are built....maybe a new, in-the-box might have dollar value, but not old Plasticville with dark glue spots everywhere. Those boxes look like the ones I saw at the last train show...mix of everything under the sun, shovelled into boxes....end of show, five bucks a box, 20 for all six boxes. Buy them for that, yank the couple of pieces you need, give the rest away (and that can include giving it to a dumpster). You are NOT going to be able to make a living, or even retire, on obtaining boxes of stuff like that for resale. The wild card is "There's a sucker born every minute", and you might just find some clueless newbie on evilbait to give you more than you paid for it. Dave

The thing that caught my eye that I would be interested in would be the power packs. The rest of the stuff, I agree with what has been posted above. Not a lot of $$ value in it.

Thanks for the info. I didn't actually buy this stuff but was at a loss as to what to do with it. I joined this forum as it seemed there was a huge knowledge base here. Luckily for me there is a train show near where I live this weekend. Maybe I'll be able to unload it there for 20 bucks instead of taking it to the dump.
I would really like to say thanks for the info. Model trains are not anything I know about.
Have a great weekend.
Thanks,

Definitely some interesting Tyco and AHM pieces in there, I gotta say.

Good! You have engines! I see a lot of mixed stuff there...trouble is, unless you want to service them (clean, lube) and test them, they are as-is. Dave

Well after visiting the super train model show and speaking to a very helpful and knowledgable modeler - I went home and put a small track together and watched 23 different engines whirl around the track. The most fun were the caboose with lights and the Thomas Kincade Christmas train. All the coach lights lit up. We played with a piece for loading flat cars and a piece that dumps cars. I still have more to explore and a few more engines to try out. What a learning curve!!

Lenora, I'm glad your are enjoying your trains. Please if you have time share your collection with us. Here are some examples of collection displays from myself and Jerry on this site.

I usually open my photos with MS Paint and use it to crop and resize them before I post them.
If your are still interested in selling, there is a new Tyco site that has a trading post section.

| I see a lot of $3-$5 cars, a lot of $10-$25 engines, some $3-$15 transformers, some $5-$15 buildings, and the track as a lot there's probably $20 there.

You have some nice pieces there. Nothing terribly valuable as others have stated, but still a good box of trains (whatever that means... ). The black/white/red engine that has "4301" on the cab is a Tyco C430 and is somewhat scarce. Enjoy the trains, whatever you choose to do with them.

There's a CP C-Liner in there that looks like a Proto 1000 unit.
