Can anyone shed some light on Lionel's HO Canadian Confederation train set? When was it made and was this set actually made by Lionel or another company? Is it rare? Any idea of what a decent in the box set is worth?

Thanks Todd

Well for this expat, I'd say this is pretty darn amazing and in great shape. The Confederation was about 1867, n'est pas, so does this set date from 1967? Box looks nice. I'd jump all over this if it ever came my way. One of the more interesting sets I've seen in a while. Please post in SOTW, very nice.

Looks like a 1970's set to me, although I could be wrong.

Seller wants $300. I'd really like to know if this set is rare enough to justify the price. Problem is I'd be SO tempted to run it!

Forgot to mention the photo above is not the actual set that I'm looking at. The original box is missing. The trains are however each in their own individual boxes. I'm sure this hurts value as well.

http://www.hoseeker.net/lionelhoinformation/lionelholcan1970infopage02.jpg Not found in catalogs before or after. T-10067 is set number. Same page has Ontario Northland, CP, and CN sets. Dave

LOL! I was just about to post that link. 1970. I thought it would have been newer.

Personal opinion? If you actually run trains, and don't store them hoping in 50 years someone will give you big retirement bucks, pass. Three hundred clams US is a lot for plastic. Now, if it was 300 Canadian, that's a different story.... Dave

| I wonder if these sets were made in Canada? I notice on HO Seeker they mention the bottom of the locomotives say "Molded in Canada"

Back then they were making stuff wherever they could get the best "deal"...later Mexico (for a while, anyway). I do not think it is reasonable to think the molds were anywhere else, sent to Canada, changed to reflect that, run the set, then ship them back and re-modify them. I have a box full of Lionel FA's, have to dig it out and see what they say on them.

Actually, the molded (moulded?) in Canada might be wrong: http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2104969 Looks like it all came from Kader, parent company of Botchman.

| Lionel did not make HO trains in 1970. The catalog with the Confederation Set is from 1975-1976 era. The FA diesel was made in Hong Kong. The 50' box cars were made in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Hong Kong cars have separate roofwalks. The Taiwan box cars have cast on roofwalks. The caboose has Bachmann cast into the frame.

| In light of that, even 245 Canadian is about...oh....240 too much.
