Ok, I got a couple of diesels (paperwork says they are Cary F3 bodies) but I found a LOT of
references, however, there appears to be a number of different phases for these diesels.
Need to know if they are EMD/EMC, which phase are they and are the trucks correct for them.
I know the old time steamers, but, am fairly stupid about the diesels.

A unit

B unit

These came with a set of E7 bodies I got for replacements.

Looks to be phase 1 F3's by EMD. The F has the wrong side frames. Nice Hobbytown chassis!

George - the L&N had a F7 that looked like a F3. (A F7 was wrecked - they purchased a F3 from the ACL for body parts to repair it. So while it looked to the world like another F3 it was in fact an F7). This probably happened more times with more railroads than we know.

Thanks. Justin, are any of those side frames correct? If so, which one(s)?

The trucks on the A unit look like something from an Alco. I have seen an EMD engine sitting on Alco trucks, once. It was on the Illinois Central which used to do that kind of thing when they rebuilt engines in their Paducah shops.

And, there were railroads that traded in old units...and the contract for new stipulated the trucks from the trade-ins were to be used...but in all these decade and decades, I do not ever recall seeing an F unit with other than Blombergs. I've seen road switchers...but not F units.
The A units look like AAR Type B trucks, similar if not the same as used on Alcos.
Somebody either got the wrong kit, or swapped parts around before you got them (like the flywheel in the B and not the A....if under an RS unit, no room).

Then I can take it that the trucks on the B unit should also be on the A unit? If this is
the case, then I will need to find a set for it. These were in a couple of boxes I presumed
were in the larger box to help fill out some empty space. Discovered that the E7 bodies
also included the frames as well. Either I misread the description, or someone screwed
up when they packed the box for shipment. Oh well, only cost me $45 for the entire
lot, so I really can't complain much.

True to what you say, the IC unit that I saw was not an F.

The only instance of cab units on odd trucks I know of are some Rock Island Alco FAs that were rebuilt and got trucks from EMD FT units being traded in.
