On my end at least a post I started from 2008 show 67 replies but when I looked it up today there is only the original post. Tech issue?

I think a tech issue - this is up at the top of the page:
Microsoft Cursor Engine error '80004005'
Data provider or other service returned an E_FAIL status.

It looks like there's some sort of error returned from the database where the content of that thread is stored. It may be some kind of version mismatch between the database and the asp program that formats in or a corrupted file or something like that.
I've noticed that these kind of technical issues seem to come and go on the forum.

That was a long thread that I remember contributing to. Without a moderator to address these issues, all the info on this site may be just as volatile.

This problem reminds me of how we used to experience (though I haven't seen them in a long time) periodic outages, where we would only get a little black and white error messages if we tried to visit the forums, lasting a couple of hours. It is due to the way the forum is built. Whoever put it together (according to the bottom of the page, some entity called Snitz Forums 2000) originally used the Microsoft JET database engine, which is supposed to be used on networks to let multiple users access various resources simultaneously - NOT to create an online forum! Although it is technically similar, a forum like ours gets orders of magnitude more traffic, especially with all the unregistered guest visitors, and the JET engine (not supposed to be a pun) doesn't have the capacity to deal with that. It would get bogged down and crash when we got too much traffic all at once, and the outages would last a few hours until the server reset. It might have worked fine in the early internet days of Y2K, but it's been 15 years since then and it's no longer viable. This is a similar issue, where something got screwed up behind the scenes due to a system that isn't meant to be used the way it is. It's inherent to the forum architecture itself, and unfortunately the only way to fix these problems would be to toss out the entire thing, create a new site around a more technically modern forum design, and start transferring content and re-registering users.
