Does anyone know if the Tyco spirit of 76 engines were ever recalled because of Tyco not have permission to use the presidential seal?

I read that someplace. But there seem to be a lot of them around.

" The most striking feature was the Presidential Seal.
Both this early prototype and the first production version of the engine had this rare Presidential Seal on the sides. Tyco received a letter from then President Nixon's staff that they were NOT authorized to use the Presidential seal and Tyco had to recall these engines from the stores."

If you think of all the really weighty things a presidential administration has to worry about, one can't help but wonder why anyone bothered to notice.
Wasn't a war in Viet Nam, the Cold War, and opening up China to the West enough to keep them off the streets?

Nixon's staff members actually went after Tyco. That's pretty crazy, actually. Not to mention, very "dated". Very interesting, though. Didn't know the government even cared about Tyco.

The first Tyco Spirit of America engine was a Alco C 430. It had the Presidential seal with the verbiage "Seal of the President of the United States" around the seal. The second generation of engines had the seal without the verbiage "Seal of the President of the United States"

I have about 12 Spirit of America diesel engines and 3 of the steam locomotives. I bought my first S of A Steam locomotive in 1977, and it still runs.
