I recently got an Arbour Models 2-8-4 Kanawha kit, and it's missing all the screws, washers, rivets, handrail stanchions, worm bearings, the bottom plate for the gearbox, and the valve gear. I'm assuming these were all in one bag? The instructions are also missing. Would anyone happen to have these parts on hand? If so, I would gladly pay for them.

I seem to recall hearing a rumor about that kit being the worst one in all of HO scale history to assemble... godspeed!

Yup, I've also heard that! One guy even told me trying to build one was foolishness, so now I REALLY need to build it!

I managed to find the bottom gearbox plate in the kit, and I've been told the PSC #2 Baker valve gear is pretty much the same as the Arbour, so that should work. I was also sent photos of the 2-8-4 instructions, so I should be able to identify what's needed and find replacements.

I'll likely check with Bowser to see if they have screws and other parts that will fit if needed. The guy who sold me the kit gave me a decent refund for the missing parts, so that should help to cover the cost of new parts.

Thought I'd let you all know I've gotten more help in finding the rest of the correct replacement parts I need, so it shouldn't be long before I can get started!

Erich and John Patton were working on Arbour Allegheny kits. I still can't believe they used plated plastic drivers.

Especially when you look at how many of the other parts (almost all) are metal!

I thought of trying the Allegheny, but I already have a Rivarossi, so I decided to go for something different. The wheel centers on my 2-8-4 are also chrome plated plastic. I'm not sure, but I think they used to use white metal wheel centers, but you can imagine how those could deform over time. The only other non-metal parts are the pressed fiber drawbar and the drive tubing. Despite the completely hollow boiler, this thing's HEAVY!

Finally got the rest of the parts! I've started assembly, and it's going well. There have been plenty of issues with the kit already, but I've gotten each one resolved so far! I'm certain I can make a smooth runner out of it!
