Another nice Tyco product, this Penn Central boxcar will be rolling stock behind my F9 and GP-20 Conrail engines soon. I've gone on a minor Tyco PC kick this year, and have the A/B engines, and already had the GP-20 ( or was it a 430? I forget ). Anyway, my PC fleet is small but growing gradually, I won't widen it too far, but just enough to satisfy my craving. :)

Nice COTWs so far, guys. Love that Penn Central car. Anyway, my COTW is a Mantua Reading Caboose from Mantua's 1994 train pack "The Reading Way". The 90's were definitely not a good time for Mantua.

Oooh la, la. Lovin' that Bachmann Auto Rack. Is that tan auto on the
top rack a Dodge Mirada? I drove a Mirada for years. Worst car I
ever owned, but I just had to love it. Kind of like Tyco.

The auto rack is 89 scale feet long, just a bit longer than your typical Rivarossi streamlined coach. I haven't run it yet in a train, but the minimum radius on my mainline is 26 inches so it should be OK. One of the reasons though I got this car is to try out those new Kadee #451 extended swing gear boxes and couplers. I'll write up a report when I try them out.

Here is my 1962 Athearn International Minerals Tanker car. This is from the promo set - said to be one of the rarest production sets ever. It goes with last week's working hopper car.
Starting my Tyco and other favorites collection over again after 37 years.

Walt, I is so jealous! Mine has slight damage to the logo on one side and a missing corner step, but at least I found one with logos!

These hoppers are easy to get on the slope with...

I tried to combine it all in one picture... but it doesn't work. So, in their greatest detail, TYCO's redbox mint Auto Loader... and I was the first to open it. Guess that means it isn't mint anymore, right?
Okay, the pictures!

This photo is showing that this has just breathed fresh air...
Don't know why there's clear tape on the autorack on both ends between the trucks.
Top tread area middle "TYCO" RedBox molding.
Was this set of AMX's and Camaros ever come sold separately?
Throwing this in there 'cuz my birthday is this Saturday and I liken it to this Build-Date!
The epilogue to this embellishment is the original price tag the cashier would have had to "key-in"... note that it is also marked "LIONEL"...
This concludes my entry... oh, the price I paid for this? $4.99CA! (at my LHS.)

In my world, there's a special place in hell reserved specifically for the Athearn offset-side twin in ATSF paint. The one I have, I glued the frame in place years ago, but without painting the weights. A few months ago, not realizing that it was very stealthily glued in, I attempted to disassemble the car and remove the frame to paint the weights... and inadvertently destroyed the frame. Neither the shell or the frame can be salvaged, so I left it in a box never to be seen again

I think I will leave my weights unpainted. I had a pancake motored Bachmann steam engine that was banished to the junk box after a new factory motor. Good times and bad just like all hobbies.

Very true, that. Also, I usually coat the weights with black ink (yes, it works) to prevent rust is all. Most people don't though, it's just a matter of personal preference.

Sean - I'd be interested in finishing out my set. I know that you can use other Athearn items if you need to replace rusted frames, etc. I would love to pick up your other 4 items - the worst ones, of course - I'm sure you want to keep the best.

I have that same car in my fleet without the automobiles. I put Athearn trucks on it with plastic extensions glued underneath with No.5 Kadee boxes and couplers. I don't run it on my track because it comes off even on 22 in. curves that have, so it will go no a shelf for now. I'd be interested in trying out those new Kadee #451 extended swing gear boxes and couplers to see if it works better, only after you give a good report on their performance though.
