As I mentioned in this weeks BOTW, I invite my friends (not a railroad nut among them) to work on my railroad for my birthday. I let them "decorate" the layout, and over the years some strange and silly things have appeared on the layout. I still find new things now and then that surprise me. Recently I discovered a 5 person jug band on a hillside... interesting
Anyway, enjoy:
Ninjas on a bridge. I'm not sure I want to find out what they are up to.

Jar Jar getting whacked by a ninja. Ok, I approve of this one.

Sulley and Mike at the station. And twin twins. Just a normal day on the RPRR.

Apparently some Jawas commandeered a Star Tours ship and crash landed. Not sure what the chimp is doing here though.

Jawas in battle. Cows not impressed.

Zurg seems to be holding his own against the Jawas.

Mater viewing the scene.

The Redwoods and Pacific has two Jar Jar's. That's two too many. At least Jedi Mickey will take care of him.

A simple scene of domestic bliss. She is relaxing and he is hanging the clothes. I'm thinking that my friends are trying to send some sort of subtle message to me.

Lastly, Steamboat Willie at the helm of a sardine boat. Subtle and clever. It took me a while before I discovered this one.

Awesome. This is exactly the kind of layout I want to have someday. Currently I have Doctor Who, the Tardis, and K-9 hiding out along with a leftover WWII soldier and some celebrity Hot Wheels cars. I've got many more ideas, but less time and money.
BTW...anytime Jar-Jar gets knocked out is OK by me. I'm an old-school Star Wars fan but the prequels....ugh...

Excellent stuff there, Redwoods, and great modeling to boot.
All that's missing is Trogdor the Burninator.

Now, that's what I like, a man having FUN with his trains, and having his friends help him to boot. I think you have the perfect combination of more adult than Thomas, but less nitty than a rivet-counting detailer. Sweet.

I like You forgot to mention the Brontosaurus behind the Jawas I do want that Star Tours vehicle Technically Steamboat Willie is Mickey Mouse When I do my layout I do have TMNT to put on it Oh! One silly one I saw & I don't think it's made anymore was a lady topless chasing after a monkey who stole her top

When I belonged fo a club in pomona every open house there was a cow operating the interlocking tower....annnnd every open house some member would promptly remove said cow (he was a spoil sport) so finally one year I put one of those candy machine "homies" (the ones you occasionally find in those mom and pop burger places) into another tower. The spoil sports never saw it but the viewers did.
When the club folded ( I had left years before due to politics there) one of the last meetings was about who had.placed the " out of proportion figurine" in one of the towers and the immaturity of said placer. When I heard that I had to wonder why these people did not have a sense of humor.
Now at the club I am in now, my "hijinks" are greatly appriciated and sometimes encouraged. One of my scenery ideas will be a crashed UFO with all these government people around it and Marvin the martian near a phone booth elsewhere calling AAA :)
just me Ray... and just because I have Tyco doesn't mean I am not a model railroader

Excellent! If you dont' mind I think I'll put that on my layout-if I ever have one.
I really enjoy the little story scenes. A large club layout I visit sometimes has several of these. The one I like best is the boy scouts camping in the woods and one of the scouts is running with a black bear chasing him.
There is another club layout at the Wilmington, NC RR museum. The have a "find" list posted and want visitors to look for various scenes or particular objects.
I am what you call a "rivet counter" but, I do enjoy the "off scale" and humor. My brother and I set up a small layout, years ago. I took one of the cows and repositioned it's arms and legs, stood him up in the cab of a steam locomotive. He had one elbow resting on the window sill and the other hoof on the throttle. I really would like to have had an engineer's cap for him.
Unspoken expectations are premeditated failures.

You just weren't in the right club. My club has both types, our layout is fairly "normal", nothing like what you did, but we do enjoy some out-of-reality humor with it once in awhile - Jerry

My Club also does modular, and once a year at a huge Boy Scouts Model Train expo, we join up with other modular clubs. One guy has a UFo crash scene, with police and emergency vehicles with flashing LED lights, quite a crowd pleaser. My thing will be to have a modular railroad Sci-Fi convention scene, I have a James T. Kirk "action figure" about 8 inches tall, a Lost in Space saucer, a Star Trek HO scale Galileo shuttle, Space 1999 Eagle, and other space props to use. Haven't built the module for it yet, but some day.....

Flawless. Victory.

I love stuff like this. I'm accomplished enough in "rivet counting" and strive for overall realism, but always love a well-placed inside joke or bit of pop culture or comedy. It's best not to take one's self too seriously. You've done a fine job there! Lots of stuff I wouldn't have even thought to look for or pass off in HO. I'm sure visitors enjoy your layout. Stuff like that is important - visitors more into the trains and rivetcounting can will always appreciate and pay attention to those, but spouses and kids and the general public need something to spark their interest and imagination as well.
Thanks for sharing!

My daughter has given me a number of small Star Wars figurines over the years. So some of them naturally end up on my layout. Not many visitors to my railroad notice this one, but when they do they love it. It's hidden near the back wall in a somewhat forested area.

Great stuff guys! I don't care how much money time and work we put into our hobbies, we are still really just playing with toys, and I don't care who has a problem with it. I'm having fun my way and I hope you're having fun too.

Well I still need to find that Star Tours ship someday
That huge layout in Germany has funny things on it too
but this just proves we can't be serious on doing a layout
