Photos from last Monday. Oyster Bay Railroad Museum scheduled to reopen July 18 and 19.

Oyster Bay train station being rehabilitated.

Long Island Railroad train at the new station platform a few blocks away. Looking east toward the end of tracks.

Track heads west toward New York City.

Pleasant park between the train station and the bay.

Virtually empty on Monday with people leaving early.

Easy to social distance during these weird times.

Windy conditions during my visit.

No complaint for sure.

Oyster Bay itself.

Few seagulls and geese there.

A pleasant late afternoon and early evening there.

Marshland and ponds with various bird species.

Why did the geese cross the road?

To get into the refreshing cool pond.

They clearly enjoy being in there.

Photos from my trip to Kings Park New York on Monday.

On the bus to Hicksville as it passes Brookville.

At Hicksville waiting for the train to Kings Park.

A very short train passes Hicksville in the meantime.

Finally arrived at Kings Park.

Colorful depot at the center of the village.

Looking east at the Kings Park depot.

Looking west at the Kings Park depot.

Same angle with more background scenes.

Kings Park museum nearby currently closed.

Almost three miles away is Sunken Meadow Park.

The Long Island Sound at the park.

Beautiful beach views with Connecticut across the sound.

Later I go to Mr Cheapos Records in Commack. Afterwards a bus to Huntington to take the train home.

Back at Hicksville for more photos.

Getting a bit colder now.

Last photo before I take the bus home. Very enjoyable day hiking in that attractive section of Long Island.

Photos from Friday to Kings Park New York.

Kings Park depot. Decades ago there was a spur line which started west of the station.
The spur line was behind the depot before they expanded the parking lot.

Just east of the depot the spur line passed route 25A.
Many years later they relocated the switch to east of the station.

Now the spur line has been redone as a hikers and bikers trail.
At the beginning of the trail there is a visitors glass case which shows a map and history of the line.

The spur line served a huge mental hospital nearby.

The former spur line was a mile and a half long.

Goes in a northeast direction toward the hospital.

Nice opening.

Tree lined path.

A few other hikers were there but I did not photograph them.

Clouds came before nightfall.

Imagine when trains ran there decades ago.

Destination is the former mental hospital.

Buildings in the complex are now empty and derelict.

The main building is in disrepair.

Back on the trail to head to Kings Park station.

Almost dark.

Not far from the station.

Arrived at Kings Park to take the train to a bus to get home.

I returned to Kings Park New York on Sunday.

Back on the one and a half mile trail which was once a spur line to the hospital.

Comfortable weather for hiking.

I imagine when this had a track to the hospital.

The former passenger boarding platform was near the hospital buildings.

The main building is in view.

Still is imposing even though it is derelict.

Probably will be taken apart due to being too expensive to restore.

I continue on a trail which was not originally part of the spur line.

Short distance away is the north shore of Long Island.

Very colorful that day.

Views of Long Island Sound.

Comfortable weather.

Sunken Meadow Park beach with the Long Island Sound.

Few people on the beach.

Most were on the broadwalk.

I prefer being closer to the water.

Social distance measures here.

Not cold.

Very colorful and comfortable.

Replica light house at the parking lot leading to the local trails.

Time to leave and return to Kings Park village.

Another view before leaving.

Other side of the main building as I walk back to the station.

More derelict buildings are still there.

Was a prosperous complex so many years ago.

Back on the trail.

Getting late.

Will be dark soon.

Still some daylight left.

Must have been nice to see a train in action on that section of the spur line.

Another derelict building still there.

Back at Kings Park station as it gets dark. Heading home.

Videos from Sunday to Kings Park New York.

Bus ride to Hicksville New York to get the LIRR train.

Arrived at Hicksville New York and waited for the eastbound train. Videotaped a westbound train while waiting.

Arrived at Kings Park and saw the train leave. Another train left in the reverse direction.

Half hour later I pass in front of the main hospital building which is empty and in poor condition.

Starting on a trail to Sunken Meadow Park with the Long Island Sound in view.

Continue on the trail above the waters of the Long Island Sound.

At Sunken Meadow Park beach.

Pleasant afternoon.

More people on the broadwalk instead of the beach.

Heading back toward Kings Park.

Leaving the dock area.

On the trail to the station.

Nice view of the trail. Must have been nice to see a train enter this area decades ago.

Changing trains at Huntington New York.

Ready to take the second train back to Hicksville New York.

On the LIRR train as it stops at Cold Spring Harbor New York.

On the LIRR train as it stops at Syosset New York.

Off the LIRR train at Hicksville New York. Transfer to bus for the last leg of my trip.

Nice drone video of the Kings Park hospital site. Not my video.

Change thru time at the Kings Park New York station.

Internet photo from 1955 shows H10 steam engine 113 pushing freight cars on the hospital spur passing Kings Park depot.

My photo at the area in 2020. No evidence of the spur track.

Similar location. The depot had been rebuilt over the years. Similar but different.
