Wow, that is a nice museum. I'd love to see something like that. All that
stuff from the early 20th century- what a different time and place. My
grandfathers would have been about 12 or 13.

Went to Massapequa New York yesterday.

Massapequa train station for the Long Island Railroad.

Eastbound track for trains to Babylon and Montauk.

Westbound track for trains heading to New York City.

Massapequa Park station a mile away from Massapequa station.

I am now at the Amityville station platform looking east.

Few minutes earlier I saw a westbound train pass thru the station.

Later I saw a new train set at Freeport New York.

Few days ago I saw the Cannonball set pass thru Lynbrook New York.

A few blocks away is the Trainland hobby store.

Terrific visuals, some of those shots are professional grade. One does not
see commuter rail of this caliber too often here in the US. Looks like a lot
of people still rely on the train.

I know my forays through NYC whether on surface street or I 95, or many
of the other interstates in and around NYC is like a trip into Dante's Hell.
A lot of truckers won't go to NYC because of the jams and hazards. I have
had my share of razor thin escapes with NYC traffic. Give me the train!

Give it a few years and it will have that natural New York aging effect.

Does look nice so far. Next year when the masses intrude on its immaculate setting we will see the aging effect take shape. Hopefully slowly.

Long Island Railroad has been around since 1834. Was ground level for years.
Sections raised when automobile traffic increased. This segment in Astoria is not Long Island Railroad territory.

It connects to the Long Island Railroad tracks just two miles away.
I just put my photos in this thread since Astoria is on the island named Long Island.

These are former New Haven Railroad tracks. Now Amtrak and CSX Railroad as well as Norfolk Southern trackage.
