Indeed it is, as well as being another reminder that railroad/railway intermodal predates the 20th century, and in fact goes as far back as merely 2 decades in to the 19th century.

From illustration on page 391,
quote:
"Figure 6.13 Josef Ritter von Baader, a German inventor, proposed this scheme for piggybacking farm wagons in 1822. (Deutsches Museum, Munich, Germany)"

Figure 6.14 on page 392 is a LB&SC, London, Brighton, & South Coast Ry horse-drawn wagon for moving household furniture secured to one of same Ry's 4-wheel flat wagons/cars. The furniture moving van wagon is labeled as being able to be shipped as far as Paris
quote:
"... from house to house ON THE SAME VANS"
The all caps are the railway's.

Given it was in 1880s and 1890s I wonder if a Tyco/Mantua 10-wheeler would be suitable power for modeling an interpretation of the 1880s Long Island train.

Since it is beyond my specific interests, and I don't have one of those locos anyway, I'm not going to attempt modeling that train.

Photos from Saturday after work to Oyster Bay New York.

Started after a shorten work day at Roslyn New York.

Pretty parks near the train station.

Sunny day in Nassau County.

Few ponds in that area.

Railroad bridge north of the Roslyn railroad station.

Parking lot at the railroad station.

Roslyn New York train station.

Another view of the train station.

Tracks looking south bound at Roslyn.

At track level looking south bound.

Former Oyster Bay train station building being restored.

Will look great when she is fully cleaned up.

Temporary train museum photographed by our member "the siding" earlier.

Long Island Railroad train yard east of the former station building.

Well worth the trip.

Pretty setting.

Windy but pleasant.

Plenty of seagulls.

Definitely a place to visit and enjoy.

Families make this a place to produce memories to last a lifetime.

Close to New York City.

Cool signals to look at.

Another look at them.

Fun walk to Mill Neck New York.

Pretty scenery in the area.

Spring trees make a nice setting.

Just sixteen miles from the New York City border.

I continue my walk to Mill Neck.

Almost there.

I made it to Mill Neck New York.

Looking westbound at Mill Neck.

The former train station there.

Now a post office uses that building.

Still has the platform used by passengers years ago.

One track line makes it look very country like.

I wish they would reactivate that building to accept passengers again.

Bridge next to the former train station.

I leave Mill Neck and head to Locust Valley New York.

Beautiful walk in a beautiful setting.

Another beautiful pond just north of Mill Neck.

I still had some bread to feed the birds.

They make me forget about the virus situation.

I can go there again and again.

You should see Riverhead to Greenport since I had to work the show back in August could no take the ride

That Bridge in Roslyn is where I saw my first freight train All box cars I was either 1969 or 1970 Train went backwards AND HAD a caboose a green one

There used to be a siding down the tracks towards the West direction

The Oyster Bay museum is small in comparison to Riverhead

Photos from Wednesday after work.

I checked out a nearby rail yard in Glendale Queens New York.

Could only take far away photos due to the barriers.
Some videos I took during the early Wednesday evening.

First freight train passes me in Glendale. Only two freight cars pulled by two engines.

Engines idling nearby. Could not get closer due to the private rail yard procedures.

Saw a second freight train passes under me at 80 Street bridge.
Enjoyable evening near my home. Well about seven miles away.

Some interesting lash ups; reminiscent of the PC. I had not heard of the A&NY before. This would be
an interesting road to model.

Yesterday I went to Bellerose New York for some KFC.

A meal and some train action make for a lovely evening.

May go back there tonight after work.

And maybe some snacks at a store there before they close at 7 pm.

Seems many are still in hibernation mode Jeff.
Sad really but at least it gives me more self distancing.

As promised I returned today after work.
Had KFC chicken pie and drink while watching the trains.
Did not bother to take photo of the food since I took one yesterday.
This time at Floral Park New York.
About a mile east of Bellerose where I was yesterday.
