Someone donated about 20 of these Lesney cars to the local club a few years back and I always cringed at the underscale busses (think TT scale) and S-scale Lincoln amid all the nice HO cars. I collect the cars too, but I wouldn't use any on a layout except for a couple of their trucks that are almost right to scale.

That Coke truck and cement mixers are survivors from way back. I always hate to paint over original paintwork on old Matchbox cars but they were so rough I don't think any value was lost, besides I'm keeping them around for sentimental reasons anyway. Now that I have done a few decals of my own I might try redoing the Coke truck if I can get them sharp enough.

59Chevy - what a trip down memory lane! Fantastic display! Jaw dropping in fact Some of my favorites: the old chevy in the next to last picture, and the Ford wagon in the pic above it....and the Cadillac in the second pic down. Man I wish I still had those, they really epitomize what those early Matchbox cars were all about.
But not only that, you have created a real museum display there. Very cool
Digging that monorail too!
The Cadillac ambulance in the last pic (nice one!) - I painted my surviving one into a hearse for my cemetery/funeral project on the layout:

Thanks!
I got a little carried away with my display shelf! I sort of made a vertical layout.
The old Chevy is a "59 Chevy!"

I'm a little puzzled by the "minerals" on the menu. Most food is either animal or vegetable. I have had wind blown sand crunching between my teeth, but I didn't have to buy it.

Great stuff guys! Crappy picture, but here's something a little different (still relevant though!).

I've been re-purposing retro boardgames as wall art by encasing them in pine frames. I believe this Matchbox game is dated 1968.

This is what MicroBen mentioned. Had one of these. Track has a spring in the slot the pulls the Matchbox car around. Nice old toy but did not compare to powered slot car racing...

59Chevy - WOW, what a display! I have that Schuco Disney monorail, too, but I need more track to make a circle, but your display gives me some ideas, too. :)
Microbusss - Heh heh, I have that Matchbox Motorway system, a friend of mine in PA gave/traded it to me some years ago. I've never tried it, but will do so eventually. While not a racing setup like regular slots, it was meant to use the regular Matchbox cars the child played with, and "motorize" them so they could move around the track. Pretty neat idea, but obviously didn't catch on. Wonder if I can make a big loop with it, and use in on an HO train module at shows? THAT would be neat!
I've seen those other Highway systems at an antique show, but at $140, I didn't want it that bad. Maybe some day.

Lots of nice Matchboxes here, but I really like this one - which strangely I never had. Hard to say for sure but it looks like it would fit right into a HO layout. I think "Minerals" may refer to mineral water? I have something similar I forgot to take a pic of, an ice cream van with an attendant handing out cones. It looks to he close to HO scale too.

Here's all of my vintage regular wheels Matchbox.
The first picture is a Matchbox car with the box that I got at a train show for $15.
The next one I got for $1 at another train show.

The last two I got $5 for both of them together so it was like $2.50 for each of the vans.

I think so too. These cars are the real Matchbox cars. There are no others. Even the modern Matchbox isn't the true Matchbox.
