Starting off with a Tyco unit, the GT diesel I picked up last Saturday at the show for $2, will get a new truck under it and hopefully get it re-powered soon.

Yes, it was on the Tyco List of rarities that Spiderman76 put out, or the Forum did, that I copied and check on occasion. :) While not especially rare, they are hard to find, and at $2 just missing a truck ( I got bins of them ), it was a no-brainer to acquire this one! Body is darn near perfect, for living in a junk box under the vendor table for how long? It's got a Forever home now.

I've always liked that GT scheme, and Tyco really hit a home run with it. I was in 6th or 7th grade and got a LL GT GP38-2 that I just about ran the wheels off. I have a mint Tyco Alco that I painted the handrails white.

A $25 pawn shop buy with a nice box. Up and running. Will ship off soon for a Southern re-paint. It was hand painted, letters and all!

Well my LOTW, is something.....I took a trip on Sunday, September 1st. my Birthday, I turned 35.....BUT I found this at a hobby shop I have NEVER been too, and was worth the 200 mile trip, one way!

Found all this, in a bag on the "used junk" shelf in the store, with a $10.00 price tag. thought I done well! (And YES, that motor seen here runs... FAST and strong!) The bag, also had a Hobbytown of Boston RS-2 shell in it, complete, with a Penn Line center cupola caboose, also complete.....ALL for $10.00 yeah, I done well!

John,
I could use that BM Pacific. It obviously has the separate gearbox, but are the driver tires metal or plastic?

Nelson, Sadly, I may be keeping this one....I got a complete unit, possibly 2 here....BOTH have the plastic drivers....BUT I want to build one, factory Athearn with a good can motor in place of the original to add a DCC decoder in it....(sorry, no sound in this one) I want to use it at the local club to agrivate a few guys as the local club is all B&M modeling, and here I am....a B&O'er BUT, I got enough passenger cars to make this one happen anyway!
BUT, your right, it has the separate gearbox, like that made off the diesels with the clip after the finger and posts go past the axle gear...
With that said, I want to see if I can make a set of Mantua drivers, OR Bowser drivers, and if not again, then my last try is to try a set a John English 4-6-2 drivers......I want to see if I can make that happen as it be a GREAT conversion to this loco if it can be done.....ONCE I do that, the plastic set up will then be available, unless otherwise persuaded to trade them.....BUT to remember this picture I posted, doesn't show all the parts, I pretty much have 2 complete loco's here, only thing is one tender.....

This is my LOTW:
It's a Virginia & Truckee #26 by United models for PFM that came with a small lot of cars as a BIN for $54!!! Obviously it did not mention that in the listing otherwise it would have been gone by the time I saw it.
Book value is $325, but, current market value is probably around $250.

Finally broke down and picked up one of these beasts. Even with 22 inch radius, this will mostly be a display piece.

Adams, I got one just like that DD-40. NICE find, those are difficult to come by even tho, they are nothing like the real DD-40, NOR are they painted right for a demo from EMD!
Dual motor unit?

There was no real DD40. EMD went from DD35/DD35A (to UP & SP) to the DDA40X, of which all went to UP.

Frank, That just looks like it could be a whole bag of fun running that locomotive around what looks to be a pretty cool layout.

Barry; That photo is from a locomotive I have, just on my last basement layout . It is history now. My basement was made for people up to 5'8". To many collisions with pipes doomed a basement layout for me. Mine is now in the attic and is 1/4 of what I had. Fall is about to start which means I can use it once again. Another picture of a Cary Penn-Line I1 decapod. frank
