Well, to get things boiling, I'm posting this nice little Bicentennial Teakettle by Life-Like, picked it up at the Timonium show a couple weekends ago. A former club member's engine, this one caught my eye as I like the Bicentennials, and it's also a steam engine, which makes it a rarity among R/W/B engines. Didn't know this one existed until I laid eyes on it. Pretty cute little 'kettle!

Nice Union Pacific Alcos and that Climax is sweet. As soon as I saw that bicentennial teakettle I realized that I forgot one engine in my Redwoods and Pacific roster pic. Here it is, RPRR #5. It's the later version with a huge can motor and it runs like a charm on DCC. I added a coupler up front so that it can pull backwards.

My LOTW is another early hand made brass model. Just purchased it last night so I do not have it in my hand yet. A friend of mine has the exact model and his is stamped with a #3 on the bottom. We both agree this is the same model and most likely made by the same early Japanese craftsman. When he received his model, it was wrapped in news paper dated 1953. I assume mine is the same vintage, although he seems to think mine might be a little earlier... at that point, there are only two models earlier than #3, so we will see...
It is a SP Brass 4-8-8-2 Cab Forward:

Thanks Ken! I have that one too!
Fudged mine up when I tried to fix the pilot though! I did not realize all the brass rods were individually soldered on! They ALL fell off!! Now mine sports a cast brass cow catcher!

I love that CP Huntington. I've seen the real one up close in Sacramento. I've always wondered if a Mantua General could be kitbashed to make the CP Huntington. It would probably be a bit oversized.

Neat stuff this week. I like the PA's and the Climax.
Sean, is that Cab Forward and early Tenshodo, or one of those hand made custom one-offs you were talking about that didn't really have a company name on them?
Love that C. P. Huntington, Ken, although the prototype probably had the traction of ice skates.

** This is quite a week. And it is just starting. Like Nelson says. I see the Redwood repainted teakettle, the cab forward, Kens C P Huntington, the climax, PA's, 1776 teakettle, all are great additions, BUT!!! The view of the Midnight Special shark and tender, perfectly positioned on the trash can lid, takes my breath away. Only the Buss can do it that way.

Pete,
That's a sharp and impressive looking locomotive. - Did you custom paint that? - Would both those pantographs be up at once or is there one for each direction?

It is an factory American GK model. Each Pantagraph operates independently. Only one is used in each direction. I put 2- 2mm LED's on each end. They operate directionally.
See the Customizing/Kitbashing Forum for more detail on the engine.

Nelson,
Yes, this is a hand built unit. It is one of a few at least... Probably dates from ~1950. My friend Brian has one in his collection. The bottom of his is stamped with the number "3". Mine has not arrived yet. As soon as it does, you better believe I will be looking for a number! Hoping for number 1!! LOL!
If I understand Mr. Kenichi Matsumoto correctly, it could number as high as 10, but most likely it will be a limited production of 3-5 models. I have an email into Kenichi asking if he might happen to have an idea who made it. Chances are, it was made by a craftsman who was under contract by one of the early Japanese manufacturers, but which one I do not know yet. It certainly predates any catalogs. If the person who wrote the book can't identify it, I suppose no one can!
This is my friend Brian's:

I think someone ought to make one of these and send it up to Ben, With his talent for lighting, he would really get some great shots!

I've even considered making one for myself for my eBay listing photos... or even a couple different settings! Just can't seem to find the time!

Not nearly as impressive as most of this week's lineup, I present to you the result of years of searching for the right engine at the right price:
I've seen many Athearn SW-7's come and go, but none for as little as I paid for this beauty at the flea market. Best of all, the seller sounded like he was happy, so I'm sure I'll get more good offers.
Big problem is that the front right step is partially broken upwards. There is a noticeable crease on the top of the walkway and the bottom is cracked halfway through the crack's depth. Is it worth it to fix the shell, or shall I just keep looking for a replacement?
Mechanicals are unchecked but it's got handrails and I know bluebox parts are available. The new shell may make this beaut into an SW-1200/7, a Baldwin S-12 or maybe... just maybe....
An ALCO T-6!
For now though, I should resolve to learning how to airbrush and taking this victim (volunteer?) to the paint room.

Gee, that athearn sw7 sounds familiar I found one of those, fine motor aand no missing parts for 5 bucks in a junker bin. Its big problem is that I blew its custom paint to hell, so it'll be my first victim when and if I learn to airbrush...

Well, it's November 17. I don't know if that makes this a new LOTW, or a continuing part of a current thread, but here is a photo of the Rivarossi 4-4-0 I picked up off of Ebay this week .
I have been reading about Rivarossi engines for a while. Some swear by them, and some swear at them, the price was right on this one, so I decided to see for myself what they are like. Other than having to extend the drive shaft about 1/8" so it would engage at both ends, I think it is a nice little locomotive. Again, not sure what I'm going to do with it, but it's a fine little runner on my 6-ft. test track.
I have some things I want to do to it, including 28" diameter wheels on the tender, and maybe the pilot truck

Well, I haven't had that misfortune, yet, but I'll check mine to make sure the siderods are tight. I have two 4-4-o's, now, enough to build a layout I've been dreaming about. I would still like to get these enines running a little smoother. I have two J.W.Bowkers "on the property", too, one with a homemade driveshaft of my own origin, one with the motor in the cab. The latter one was missing the boiler front when I bought it, but I ordered a "buy it now" boiler front on Ebay. I had to do a little filing and fitting, but I now have a nice looking 2-4-0 in two-tone black and red. these two engines would work on my "dream" layout, as well. When I get time, I can improve the electrical pick-up on them as well as the Bachmann 4-4-0.
Meanwhile, I'm back to working on my S scale layout, and trying to stay away from Ebay!
