At the last swap meet I went to in September, one of the vendors just "gave" me a free Atlas Girder Plate bridge. Having no use for it, I was still happy that the word free was involved in the exchange! I took it home and immediately proceeded to give it a bit of a different treatment than the standard "logo-in-the-center" scheme that most of these are done in.
First, I painted the bridge inside and out and underneath in Walmart flat black, then sealed it with Dullcote, taking care to cover the rails first. I then masked the two end "spaces" and gloss coated them with Krylon Gloss Clear (acrylic), again, a fine purchase at Walmart.
I then used some Great Northern decals to place the goat herald on one end of the bridge, and the GN initials in empire font (meant for boxcars) on the other end. The reasoning behind this is that there are ten spaces on the bridge, so a "centered" logo decal is not really centered. By using the two end spaces, a balance is achieved. The use of a more "modern" GN font can be explained by the "repainting" of the bridge during my layout period, the 1950s, when "modern" fonts began to appear on building signage and such more commonly- so why not "update" GN's image a bit? I know this is fussy detail stuff (although not on a par with rivet counting), but it makes the bridge a bit more unique.
I am sure that other railroads may have decal alternatives that could also be used in a similar manner.

I would love to see my climax running high above on Johns bridge!! Too bad it has to go back to Bachmann after the DCC decoder fried!! Oh well I'll have a new one of the same paint back in about 2 months. Anyways once I'm older and have my own home, and space for a big layout, I'd love to have a bridge like that john!

Walt - I said it was a railroad name he continuosly painted Siouxlake - I oughta have you do that to my girder bridge Also GN used Sky Blue in the last years before the BN merger The new logos Didn't last long either I think it was the shortest use of a new logo in GN's existance!
