Crusty and I stopped in at the Albuquerque Locomotive Historical Society last week:

Inside the boiler, this view of the super heater pipes looks like the inside of a whale.

Tool shed.

Fireman's side

Speedometer pickup wheel.

And I thought adding a new magnet was complicated.

Beautiful engine Jeff. Great that you and Crusty visited the site.
I hope one day soon that steamer will run to the joy of all there.

From Trains Magazine

"Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 2926 is scheduled to make a beer run, of sorts, to the Tractor Brewing Co. on May 6 2023. This will be the time since restoration that the locomotive will travel a significant distance under its own power. Dave Schaaf

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Santa Fe 4-8-4 No. 2926 will make a short trip next month from its restoration site to Tractor Brewing Company in Albuquerque. The short run down approximately four blocks of industrial track will operate May 6 as a fundraiser for the New Mexico Steam Locomotive & Railroad Historical Society, which restored the locomotive to operating condition. It will be the first time the engine has moved any distance under its own power.

Baldwin built the locomotive for AT&SF in 1944 and it was retired in 1953. It was displayed in Coronado Park near downtown Albuquerque until June 23, 2000, when it was moved to a BNSF Railway siding. It moved to its current location near 8th Street and Haines Avenue, Albuquerque, in 2002. For the first time since 1953, it was steamed up in 2019. July 2021 was the first time since restoration that the locomotive was tested under its own power.

The Society said more news about next month’s move will be announced soon at: www.facebook.com/NMSX2926."

Santa Fe 4-8-4 2926 made its long awaited public debut on Saturday following a decades-long restoration in Albuquerque.
The locomotive steamed from its restoration shop to a local brewery less than a mile away.

While it was a short but sweet trip according to the non profit New Mexico Steam Locomotive and Railroad Historical Society.
It still gave the group a chance to show off their work.

Society President John Roberts tells Railfan and Railroad about the event which started Saturday morning.
The group had a small dedication ceremony near the shop where Mayor Tim Keller declared May 6 2023 to be 2926 Day in the city.

Afterward the locomotive backed down the state owned Sawmill Spur to Tractor Brewing Company.
It was on display for the day.
Roberts said they estimate that more than 3000 people came to see the locomotive during the day.
At 4:30 pm the locomotive ran back to the shop.

This is the first time in over 60 years that 2926 has moved any distance since being parked in Coronado Park back in 1956.
This was a really momentous and exciting event for our organization and we are hoping that it will lead to many more bigger and better events.

ATSF 2926 was built by Baldwin in 1944 and retired after just nine years of service.

Recap of 25 years for her rebuild project to be completed. She almost was scrapped before the restoration project was approved.

Nice work on posting this Rich. It would have been a mortal sin to have scrapped that beauty.
