Awesome pics WKS!
Is it sad that I get excited seeing photos of Amtrak F40's and consider them Vintage?

Great photos as always , Richard... I am wondering what year those were taken as the color is different and the cars in the pics look older...

Thank you Dan and Walt. The print photos were taken on various trips I took to Altoona Pennsylvania in 1994 1995 and 1996. I took some photos in Orbisonia in 1995 when a good friend drove me to that site.

Short distance away from Horseshoe Curve is Orbisonia Pennsylvania. I posted some photos earlier in this thread. A friend drove me there from Altoona. Had very little film so only a few photos were taken. Later he drove me to Harrisburg so I can take the train back to New York. Glad I went to Orbisonia since there are currently no excursions running. Maybe one day they will resume operations. Plenty of videos and photos on the internet.
One site has some nice photos.

Makes me want to go to Altoona! Do they allow swimming in that little reservoir? Be nice to be in the cool water watching the trains go by. Very interesting shot of the elephant style FP40H's; one doesn't see that too often. I may attempt to duplicated that in HO.

Be very risky to swim in that water Jeff. Visible police in the area.
K4 steam engine 1361 was at the curve during the 1970s and 80s.
Restored to operation but suffered axle problems after a few trips Ben.

Found out there is a photographer special event this Saturday November 2 2019. It starts at 1 pm and features a steam engine and a gas electric unit. Some members live within a few hours of Orbisonia Pennsylvania.

There is progress on the restoration. Still will take at least 3 to 5 years. Hopefully.
https://www.altoonamirror.com/news/local-news/2023/07/chugging-along-new-firebox-is-latest-restoration-to-k4-train/
"Visitors will soon see signs of progress on the Altoona-built K4 1361 locomotive. The Railroaders Memorial Museum received a shipment of steel to fabricate a new firebox. A task that will cost about $450,000.
The firebox is seen as a positive step forward in the effort to restore the K4. A project that has been ongoing for three decades often in a start and stop process.
The money came from donors both large and small. Included is a $100,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Railroad Technical & Historical Society."

Lot of wheel, or brake squeal. I wonder how much wear and tear each passage puts on the equipment?
For example, jet liners shed about ten pounds of rubber on each landing. Also, the tires get retreaded up to six or seven times (one assumes the front tires are simply rotated to the rear when worn out, like trucks).
