I HAVE 2 OF THESE ENGINES THAT HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY SIT ON THE TRACK AND SOUND LIKE THE MOTOR IS RUNNING BUT WILL NOT MOVE. THE LIGHTS IN THE CAB WORK FINE. IS THIS COMMON OR IS IT FIXABLE? ONE IS A BURLINGTON NORTHERN 228-17 THE OTHER IS A CHATTANOOGA 228-15. THANKS FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS

Gman,
Sounds to me that the gears on the armatures came loose. This happens when the armature overheats. The gear expands more then the armature shaft because they are dissimilar metals. Once the gear starts to slip, it wears and usualy comes off and gets lost.
I have repaired some with Loc/Tite and others with a sleave.
