I researched my Diesel by Fleishmann, turns out it's a Baldwin VO-1000 model, not sure what sub-model yet. Been crudely repainted over, looks like yellow underneath. Anyway, was reading up on them, and apparent;y it's a 1950's era model, so this engine is fairly old. And some sell as high as 900 Deutch Marcs, apparently some versions only came in sets, so were very rare. This engine is all metal, and of good weight. I'll fire it up on Sunday to see if it'll run at all. I don't think I've got any (running) Fleishmanns other than this one. Probably will keep it for now.

Hey Jerry,
Just about bet you, it was CNW at one time. These bring a pretty good price around $50-$75.

Cool, thanks for the inside info. Makes me happy my money wasn't wasted on "foreign" trains.

I have one of those as well. My father had bought it for my brother (at the time a baby) back in the mid 60's in Germany. Later on it was handed down to me and I've had it ever since. My version is painted in CNW colors but with no markings. It actually is quite a good runner, though due to the deep flanges on the wheels, it will only run on code 100 rail. I'm sure with a good cleaning and oiling, yours will run just fine as the thing is built like a tank! Very cool and indestructible locomotive!

Ever looked inside at the motor, think it's DCC-able?

I've got one of those as well. I'll second the statement that they're built like tanks. All metal. The gears make a nice sound as it moves. I've also got a steam engine. Love my Fleischmanns!

In response to the DCC question....there is plenty of room under the hood to mount a chip....but me being unfamiliar with how to actually mount a DCC chip, that is another story. Keep in mind, everything is metal....and the locomotive is old...very old....so that could be a factor if the motor is advanced enough to handle a chip.
And they sure do run well....funny how a 40+ year old engine with a metal "Power Torque-like" motor, can run about as smooth and quiet as my modern Atlas GP-40. My VO-1000 crawls dead slow, then smoothly accelerate. Last night I put it on the track and ran a 19 car train!!! No slipping at all. Well built locomotive...if only TYCO used their motors in their engines!!!
