A evaluation of a product 50 years late. * I have a very nice Fleischmann crane 4 car set. I had two. Each a little different. A friend had none. Now I have one. The one I kept has standard Fleischmann couplers. You say how can a crane look European, well it kinda does. The two idler cars used to fill the gap between the crane and the first idler car that supports the boom, also the following weight carrying flat, are made in a style not used in the USA. They, the idler cars, also carry piles of cribbing used to support the cranes outriggers for when the crane is set up to work. Also a flat car, previously mentioned, is part of this set. Its purpose is to carry the counter weights that mount on the rear of the crane cab. Fleischmann has Americanized this set with horn hook ( X2F ) couplers, either directly mounted on the cars, or replacements were available. It does seem to be a little large, but overall a nice working model.

Here's my Fleischmann collection, so far. None of these are in collector condition. Some have no wheels. They all came in a box that my dad picked up at an auction.
First is a flat car similar to one above.

Next is this awesome cement car. I'd love to have a fleet of these.

Here's a hopper similar to one in a previous post, except covered.

And finally here's another NYC hopper.

I don't run any of these. The flat and cement car are out of commission, need wheels. The hoppers just sit on the layout for appearance. I don't really care for them. They're very light and the plastic feels soft.
I've also got two locos to post somewhere later.

Fleischman also made a more recient model of a diesel very much like this last one the V2000. This one has a Plastic insert inside in the middle that looks like a diesel motor. Also two cab interiors. frank

Here's a Baldwin VO-1000 I picked up march 13th at a Winchester, VA Firehouse train sale. Got it in a boxlot of other German-made HO trains for $20. So I paid less than $1 for this one. Will find out today whether it runs or not. Will try to strip the silver paint off, Ken thought it might be a C&NW engine, and I think it is (underneath ). Not in bad shape for being almost 50 years old.

Maybe I"ll reletter it as The GBP RR ( Green Bay Packers ).

So make me an offer that I cant refuse. What is good about these cars is different window configerations on either side. You can run 4 cars, two of each car, and it will look like 4 different cars. frank
