How's this for cool and different...

We had a visit this weekend at Doc's Caboose from Minnesota. A very good mail order buyer came to Kansas City and brought along two really great looking locos.

The guy teaches a graphic arts class at a college in Minnesota. The students were given a blank diagram of an FP45 and assigned the task of dressing it up...yeah I know...I NEVER had a class like that in college either!! [:D] Anyway, the best was choosen and the teacher made this HO-scale example from the old Athearn FP45.

He really did a great job and imagine the masking job of painting those safari stripes on that shell! Notice he filled in the front pilot of the Athearn shell and drilled and detailed out the grabs, wipers, cut bars, ditch lights, etc. Really some job, huh?

I really like the way the stripes are continued to the trucks and tank on the conductors side. Beautiful and utilitarian.

This kid of custom work could be done on our Tycos too. Imagine this paint on a C430, a 630, or an old steamer.
