Hi!

Won a 2-8-0 Engine on e-bay.. hoping to get it back and running.. from googling came across servicing instructions.. followed them and the engine definitely got better.. so far I've cleaned all the gears and wheels... greased the gears and oiled the bearings (only one drop each side) even cleaned the armature and brushes.. the engine runs off track great (lifting up the tender so the driving wheels are up but not contacting track) when you let it run on its own it goes a short distance and stops.. if you nudge it it continues..

any thoughts on what to try next? I was wondering if there's some contact issues with the pickup wheels and the frame.. I have some conductive grease I could try and see if that made the axles make a better connection but wasn't sure if that was a good idea..

Appreciate any advice!

Mike

I had the same thing happen on one of mine. I discovered the plate from the tender to the engine was upside down. Turn it over and it should run fine.

Tried that..still is stopping.. there's definitely a connection issue somewhere.. if I move the train slowly while holding the traction tires up it does the same thing.. if I hold it when it's running it keeps running..

any other thoughts?

thx
mike

Check the solder and wire connections on motor. are all the wheels clean? - On Tyco steam locomotives - They pick up current from tender and locomotive - check the tender pick up connection
