Did anyone see or watch this auction? Does anyone know if that pulpwood car was really a Tyco production? https://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-TYCO-PULPWOOD-CAR-PRODUCED-FOR-THE-CHESAPEAKE-CORP-OF-VIRGINIA-NMIB/153764744372?hash=item23cd17ccb4:g:9FoAAOSwCFxd-BQH

Didn't see that auction...wish I did.....wow! That pulpwood car looks like a factory job, definitely, yet the Athearn box car is also a piece I've never seen. Perhaps that company got a special license from Tyco and Athearn to produce a limited number of train cars for their employees......and such cars were never cataloged or made available to the general public. That's my best guess.

The seller is claiming factory job but I don't know. Two different companies making a car really doesn't add up to me... I know I have never seen the pulpwood car in my 50 years of Tyco handling... It sold for a bunch so someone swallowed the story...

I've picked these up for as little as a buck or two. This one looks like it was left out in the rain, giving the paint a rather weather beaten look. "Great condition, broken frame?" Yikes. I'd be at a dollar on a good day.

That is quite steep, however they do command a good price. I can't believe that I got mine at around $60, shipped, off of a buy-it-now, with "make offer."

Yours is really quite an elegant piece, and at 60 clams you made out like a bandit. Hard to know if this well sell at 446 buckaroos.

I paid $30 at most for one of those. $25 for an all metal Mantua pacific and $30 for an early 1980’s Mantua pacific. Granted, those were both at train shows and the all metal one was sitting in a bin full of other locomotives from the same era. Not bad, though, for a classic loco like that.

Not really about the item, but about the seller.
So I'm looking for an undecorated athearn shell, and either an athearn chassis or Bmann kato drive or spectrum chassis, since those run well and are reasonably priced. I find this on ebay. $25 with best offer, only $9 for shipping. Maybe offer $15, see if he goes to $17, etc.

Here's his description. He seems to sum it up well, but it doesn't state if it runs or not. It says it has "light use" but that's still not a direct yes or no. So I do what anyone would do, and send him a message. You can see what I said, and how he replied.

As you can see, he replies with 'read'. Thats it. I ask a simple question, and instead of just answering it and possibly making a sale, he has to rudely reply. I replyed with "It does not state in the description if it runs or does not run."
Good job, you just lost a customer.
Just another example of stuck - up ebayers.

Yeah, definitely not a good response to make a sale. I've had mostly good interactions with Ebay sellers, except I got blocked by one seller, and I have no clue why.

I'm right at 1000 positive feedback and have only not received a $13, 5X7 American flag that was ordered back in 2001... He had so many Negative feedback that I didn't even bother... I have had more than one "extra gift' added to my win...

Here's one that I get a laugh out of. Slot car curves for a crazy price... I have about 45 of these that I'd give to someone if they would pay the shipping. These curves are a dime a dozen... Though seller thinks they are RARE... I can't give these things away! https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-RARE-Tyco-9-1-4-Curve-Track-Slot-Car-Pre-Patent-Curve-Track-No-5749/184117026120?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

The RED one is not common at all... But does NOT demand a huge price. The BLUE variety is dime a dozen... I have two of the red ones and never paid over $15 for either. They don't show up often on ebay and I've done an ebay Tyco search almost every night for the last 20 years!

This carded Road & Rail has been on auction several weeks at the same high price. One would think maybe the price would come down after not selling several times. I have 10 of these, 5 on blister card and never paid half of that price for any of them. Mine are even the painted on marking ones... https://www.ebay.com/itm/MOC-VINTAGE-TYCO-PRO-3-Road-Rail-Crossing-T-Jet-Slot-Car-Race-Train-Track/184128389773?hash=item2adee8428d:g:9LsAAOSwiRldNNEm

Add me to the list, I've never seen anything like it. Custom paint job?
Finally bagged a Lincoln Funeral Coach. I've wanted one of these since 1976, true. Everytime one would come up on eBay, the bidding went through the stratosphere. By chance I flicked on eBay and there it was for $90, NOS. I couldn't get my wallet out fast enough. Can't wait to add it to the Hart's Mill Layout. Hope it arrives undamaged. Been a looong time coming.
I've read everything I could about Lincoln, and much about his associates and their recollections of the man. Lincoln was one of these rare personages who is so far beyond the rest of the human race as to be flatly astonishing. His ability to rise to the task, the strings he had to pull, the mastery of his emotions under stress that would kill a normal person, this man is just amazing to have been a rising star at such a time of calamity. Simply put, he was not like any normal man on this Earth. He had a country intellect that soared above everyone around him. There have been some pretty sharp Presidents before and since, but not one, save Washington, maybe, can demonstrate his fortitude and foresight.
As many of you know, he started out as a railroad lawyer, and a very clever one at that, and it is true he taught himself law.
To have this beautiful momento kind of closes a chapter for me. I am going to run the flanges down on this piece, with pleasure.

Going to make 1/87 bunting and a 1/87 portrait like this locomotive below:

That Milwaukee Route is the scarcest Tyco E7 produced, while the BN, NH, and UP variants are more common, but still not easy to find. http://tycotrain.tripod.com/tycobrownboxdiesels/id17.html
The trucks are definitely a custom job, though, and they look awesome!
Sounds like an awesome find, Chops. I completely agree about Abraham Lincoln - he is one of the most amazing and inspiring men that ever lived, and served this country as President.
"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in Heaven." - Matthew 5:16
