I agree, rgcw5, the shipping costs really reduce deals to rubble. I
have to pay a lot of shipping, because very little turns up here in
El Paso, where there is a dearth of model train shows.

When I do ship things, I often pay the extra for insurance, as my
experience of the US Post Office is that has become very, very
poor over the last 5 or 10 years.

WHOA! Great deal, Brian! Congrats!

I actually was able to obtain 1 Shell 3-dome tanker last week at the train store....a few small tabs holding up the wires are broken, but are barely visible- not effecting the overall look of it...So, I'm happy about that find, considering that particular tanker is harder to get.

By the way, are the little tabs that hold the wires around the tankers easy to break, or do they sometimes get broken due to storage?

RP,

The only times I've had the pins that hold the wires break is when the seller does not pack the train box before putting it into the shipping box. During one recent transaction, the seller custom cut cardboard so it was snug to the tanker box. Needless to say it arrived crushed - the catwalk and several pins were broken. Therefore, I returned it to the seller. Otherwise, I've never had those pins break. Hope this helps.

I agree with Brian, Robert... Seldom do we see the tankers pins broken so I don't believe this is a common problem. I believe they get broken from carelessness and otherwise, not easily broken...

Okay, thanks guys.....that's what I figured...so obviously the former owner was involved in that one. But, for now I'll definitely keep the tanker as the broken tabs are barely visible, and who knows, if I come across a good tanker that needs parts, I'll have them.

Ah, the lure of the Triple Dome. I had the option to buy like a
dozen of them from Tinplate Henry, but fought off the compulsion.
It was HARD. But what could I do with a dozen Triple Domes?
None, I recall, were of the SoHio mark, and the Coke one
Henry's wife grabbed because she is a Coca Cola collector.
$5 a whack, I think was the price.

I like the triple dome tankers, chops... But I did stop at one of each by Tyco. Had a Gulf as a kid. They will be better this time around with the 22 & 24 radius track...

Actually, I never had a Tyco triple-dome tanker....until obtaining the Shell one, and am thrilled to state that it successfully handles the slope/difficulty of the bridge on the outer line of the Ephrata Valley Railroad. Beings that it is such a large tanker, I figured it might derail on my rather "squeezed" radius, but thanks to the pivoting three-axle trucks, the Shell tanker works great!

You know, I read somewhere, maybe in Going in Circlz, or somewhere,
that those three dome triple axle tankers tracked horribly. But from
what I've seen- I do have one- they track perfectly. Good to know.

Anyhow, I swore up and down no more T$#% Tyco or anything like it.
This mad obsession HAS to stop. Or does it? RP put me onto this eBay
item, and inabsentia, my sister, May, who now lives in Raleigh, bid on
it for me...and won with two seconds to spare. I just couldn't resist it
anymore than I could resist the Bubble Yum car. With some more
purchases from RP, I have spent over a $100 on Tyco stuffs this month.
It's the Slippery Slope- this stuff just gets under your skin- I thought

Nice Piece Chops! I went thru the Tyco buying stage for many years and finally reached where I can say I am done. MAYBE 2 or 3 more cars in the future but nothing urgent or needed right now. Most of my spending now is of grasses , and ground cover products...

Wait, the Shell one is harder to get? You mean this one, right?

One of those has been mouldering at my local flea market for a year. $3 and a couple bucks shipping and I can send it to anyone who wants one.

The guy does still have it, no guarantees it'll be in any better shape than that one but I'll check once I get back to Altoona in a week.

Okay, that'd be great if you could check....I'd be interested-- hopefully there won't be any broken plastic pieces holding up the railings/wire. I think mine only has 3 broken tabs (the underside tab of a pair), but the wire is still held in securely-enough....
