My Ebay purchasing has dropped off drastically in the past months. You guys complain about the shipping costs, try ordering from Canada! One item listed on here for examination had a US shipping price of ~$12. Punch in my Canadian Postal Code and that became $29.95 US$. Then calculate the exchange with the C$ @ .85 and you have spent a fortune just on shipping.
We don't get a break by shopping "Canadian Listings Only" as prices are listed in US$, so we still get hit with exchange.
I usually wait until the last hours of the auction and if no bids I contact the seller and offer Canadian funds if it doesn't sell. Sometimes I get what I want at reasonable prices.

I feel that pain. Back in the late 2000's when I was actively collecting Tyco passenger trains I remember getting full five piece sets shipped up to Canada for about $20. It's now common to find single cars, engines, etc. with $30 shipping tags slapped on them. Ebay's global shipping program is also a slap in the face.

Yes it is - it's horrible and bad for sellers too as far as I'm concerned. I added it to my profile a few months ago, seemed to work OK at first - I didn't miss filling out the customs forms or trying to estimate international shipping. BUT...I'm out of it now. I just had a bunch of stuff for sale on ebay, mostly model cars. I started getting messages from potential bidders about their countries (Germany and Canada) NOT being on my list of countries I would ship to! HUH?? That's nonsense! PLUS, they charge the buyers an arm and a leg to "handle it", which discourages bidding. I'm done with it.

The worst part, as far as I can tell, is it seems mostly like a cash-grab by ebay. The fee increases based on the selling price and the info box says it covers duties, taxes, brokerage, and other fees. If it increased based on the item's weight that may be justifiable. In ten years though I've never had to pay any form of customs or import taxes.

I was bitten by those "shipping" charges from Canada, once. Now I check the source of the auction before i do any kind of bidding. I have gotten a couple of items from sellers in England and didn't have those ridiculous charges on them.

The pricing and the description actually makes it quite sad. Untested, supposedly incomplete, and sitting on a shelf for a few years? And at that price?

In all fairness he did start the auction at .99. It was the fans who drove the price up to almost $100.00. Remember, an item is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

It's been removed. Maybe you hurt their feelings.

One late summer night I got into an insane bidding
war for an Athearn Car Carrier. I don' even collect
Athearn, but I just couldn't stand the other guy
outbidding me by 50 cents. Drove the price all the
way up to $40 with the idea that I'd pull out and
stiff him with bill. Well, he pulled out on me first!!
Ouch! Ended up reselling it for $20 to cut my losses.

Global shipping program has nothing to do with it, anyone can ship to Canada from their post office.

The problem is the requirement for a tracking number that gets scanned as delivered. For that you have to ship Priority Mail. Otherwise, no scan, buyer goes to eBay or Paypal and says item not recieved, they get a full refund and you have nothing.

The problem within the problem is the Priority Mail part. It is outrageously expensive for international shipping, and really makes it prohibitive on the kind of stuff I tend to sell.

The coaches really are larger than the locomotive. Seems that Bachman's 4-4-0s are not really the right size for N-Scale.

This is the set which includes the E-Z track and the transformer in the original box. Still, the guy must be on crack or something to want that price. I got the loco and coaches for $70, shipping included.

You could check completed auctions on Ebay and see exactly what they have sold for.
I'm no expert on the subject, but my guess is NIB is around $30.00

I remember seeing those up for auction some time ago. They're baaaaack! I guess if you're a VIA fan and you have some spare trucks, your ship has come in.

It's not that the price of $1 is outrageous, but... someone seriously has the balls to try to sell, by itself, a boxcar with a GIANT HOLE IN IT? To be honest I can't even figure out how someone managed to tear that kind of hole in an Athearn shell in the first place...

It kills me when auctions like that have such high shipping. $0.99 and then tack on $5.95 for Priority Mail? I think I'd be willing to wait a couple extra days for that one

On top of that, I'd rather get one in better condition at upcoming train shows instead. Seriously, how did that happen?

That doesn't even make any sense when it comes to insults. It's actually quite funny.

Probably, because of both how he insults anyone who wants it for a bit less and the fact that those insults sound like they're coming from a psycho.

Anytime I see insane pricing, I just totally stay away from the seller... There's a reason why the price is crazy, and none of those reasons are good....
