Hello everyone,

This is my first official post on your website and I am hoping you can help. Long story short, my wife still has her train set from the 70's. It is a TYCO Chattanooga Choo-Choo with smoke and chug-chug...number on box says no.7332. It is in GREAT condition used very little. So, today I decided to put it together for her (after years of storage) and our kids who are 7 & 8. I get it together and I hear a spinning noise coming from the coal car. So I took the coal car apart to look at the electric motor. It has 3 gears on the left side of it (large, medium and small). The large gear is broke at the shaft where it enters the motor housing.

Do you know where I could pick up a new motor (if even possible)?
Or
Do you guys have any that you would be willing to part with?

I appreciate any help or guidance you can provide. I realize this set is probably a cheap one sold in the 70's but at this point it is more sentimental than anything.

Thanks.

if the gear is all that's wrong replace it, but if the pin the gear slides over is broken off the motor block you will need to get a new motor. post a picture of what your talking about & i'm sure someone on here will be able to help out.

If it broke at the shaft, that usually means a broken shaft, not the gear, and the housing is then toast. Does the gear come off easily? It should almost fall off if the shaft is broken. I can't imagine the gear splitting. You'll have to give a better description of the issue before we can determine the fix. The tender drive engines are a bit different than the regular ones, from what I hear. I have parts for the regular engines, but I"m not sure I do for the tender drive versions. Once we see a picture of it, we can probably figure out what to do.

There are no new parts for Tyco trains, only NOS or used ones these days. They're considered not worth fixing by the general model train hobby. I just bought some used engines and parts from a fellow train club member, who was divesting himself of his "toy" train junkbox stuff. So I have some parts. Once I can see what you need, I may can help. Try to get a picture or 2 posted so we can figure out what you need.

I have one of those blocks you're welcome to...just PM me a mailing address and I'll have it off to you. Looks like you'll be able to salvage that bull gear by carefully pushing the broken pin out.

Hey guys thanks for all the help! Based on your explanations, I am sure the shaft is broke as the gear just falls off the motor.

So, any ideas on where I can get one?

Thanks again!
