I have never seen one of those. What is the story behind it? Is that an original tyco production? What is the roadname?

It's a Tyco release for the Australian market, the QR is Queensland Rail. Very hard to find in the US, below is a link to Tony's site and the Tyco Australian releases. I have the Victorian Railways F unit on the way too.

Here's my LOTW, with my vintage Train-Miniature unpainted shell on a new Walthers Trainline FA-1 chassis. I'm going to use this to head up my Ghost Train consist, currently 3 TM boxcars, and an unpainted Bachmann white caboose. All will receive green LED lights inside for that ghostly glowing effect.

Need to use my spare DH123 decoder and try it in this loco. I'm currently building and upgrading the Boxcars, which are in kit form, and replacing the trucks and couplers with more modern units and Kadees.

Great QR loco... I've been after one of those for a while. Supremely weird and colorful!
As a consolation prize, I did manage to score the QR switcher:

The switcher seems to be rarer, but is not nearly as cool. Based on the thickness of the paint I'm guessing Tyco did a respray job on some overstock.
All I need now is the QR 430 and caboose. I have the VR and NSW F-units and cabeese. Too bad Tyco didn't make any Australian rolling stock, although their contemporary nemesis Life-Like answered the call in that regard.

My loco is the PGW's newest pacific. It is a X Candian Pacific, the Transcontinental Pacific. Built for the runs across the country in all weather.

QUEENSLANDER! (had to be there.) The Aussie locos are a riot and the steamers are things of beauty but Microbusss's UP E7 is top of the pops for me. I have an old beat-up Proto E7 that's not so different but it lacks a City name on the side and I hope your engine SF-4 is up and running in no time, Ben!

I have tried to upload pics for a week - hopefully, this has worked. I wrote about this engine in the Repair/Maintenance Section within the past week. This is a Mantua, blue/silver box era of the early 80's. U.S.A. Made MU-2 Motor - this makes the 15th MU-2 powered diesel in the fleet - my first Mantua MU-2 powered engine was in 1973 (I was 6 yrs old) - an Alco 430 Spirit of 76 - STILL RUNS TODAY!
All the best, Mark

More great locos this week! I've been to busy to post for a while, but I'm back with this:

I stood around in the heat at an auction this summer to get this pair. The "calf" unit seems to be older. It's got metal truck frames. They don't quite match, but I like to run them together. From the picture, it looks like it time to do some dusting!

Athearn did two different runs of CB&Q SW7 "calf" units. This one *appears* to be a hybrid of both runs. The original release (1966-1978) had the metal trucks but had "Burlington" on the hood sides and were unnumbered (cows were 9280 - which was an SW1200 in reality). the rerelease was in 2001-2002 and was part of the final release of this model which was retired along with most of the "fatbody" line. These have the "Everywhere West" and "Way of the Zephyrs" on the hoods and came on plastic trucks. Like the original runs the calf units were unnumbered (the cows were 9264 - again an SW1200 in actuality). The one you have *appears* to be a late run shell custom numbered on a earlier era chassis. ER109, I would like to get a QR 4301 someday as well . Congrats. I notice that you have an extra axle in the rear truck and that your side frames are one with 3 leaf springs in the side frame center and the other with 4. I thought that this might mean something interesting about the motor since the 3 spring frame came on early PT motored Alcos and the 4 spring came on the later ones. Excellent condition too.

AF the PT has one single screw holding the side frames, also the "snap clips" to help hold it onto the motor frame (dont know what else to call the snap on arrangement) It also has the snap in coupler pocket up front but the rear is an integral coupler pocket and 3 screws hold it in place. It is definatley an early PT but it seems the rear truck was either swapped out or a Tyco assembly of errors. I searched my spare parts but did not have the correct side frame assembly, I found one on a loco in storage and replaced the front assembly. To keep the colors the same I swapped the rear from the same donor loco, so the 3 - 4 leaf spring debacle was on the donor loco. I had not noticed the extra axle, good catch. I keep telling the eye doc I need new glasses. Suppose one day he'll listen

Ha ha! If they did, I'll give them credit for using an HO scale one as the bristle-strokes are well hidden.
Naw, in reality I'm pretty sure the shell was just dropped in a bucket of traffic striping paint, then yoinked out before it melted in there.
It really is a *terrible* paint job. I mean I've heard collectors' and modelers' complaints about thick paint... and seen some jobs myself.... but this thing achieves a whole new echelon of paint strata. Honestly, if it weren't for the logos and pilot striping being as well-done as they are, with all the hallmarks of factory application, I'd almost think it was done by my 8-year-old self if I went back in time and moved to Australia. Plus, the box helps with authenticity.
