had a couple of switches from years ago like 25 yrs.

used them in my current construction. They were so badly tarnished it created a dead section.

Didn't feel like removing and replacing with new.

Sprayed them with C L R followed by brushing with a tooth brush, followed by rinsing with water. Shop vac everything up..

Tarnish gone and electric contact made. Note before and after switches

I used CLR as it contains a mild acid but vinagar, citric, oxalic would work as well

didn't notice my pal in the back ground of bottle until i previewed

Looks like quite a difference! I wonder if CLR would have the same affect on steel track Some of the steel track I bought for my turbo trains is pretty badly rusted. This looks a lot easier than sanding and polishing all the rails

That's a real interesting idea. I might have to try it.

As for steel track, the "R" in CLR stands for rust, so by their claim it should work.

That's my hope. I'm not sure how much track will be left after the rust is gone, but hey...it's worst a shot right?

For steel track try any Cola to strip the rust. Rubbing cola on chrome takes the rust off.

Cola? As in the soft drink? I'll give it a shot. Thanks for the tip!
