So... I have a complete Freightliner truck. It needs tires and the chrome re-detailed, but is otherwise great shape.

I'm kicking around the idea of painting it like the truck and trailer from BJ & The Bear.

If you find a die-cast version - you will pay for it - these models fetch high dollar as does Smokey and the Bandit die cast by Ertl - a mint smokey and the Bandit truck several yrs ago still in pic sold for ever a $100.00

Yatming was a large mass producer of these back in the late 70's - I had many as a kid and still have one

Thanks guys!

I'm really leaning towards the BJ McKay paint scheme for now. I have the cab- just need a trailer. If anyone has a trailer that isn't broken or missing doors- I'll buy it.

I have a set of decals that I've created for the Snowman's trailer though- so, I'm sure I'll make one at some point. Its just a matter of time.

This is proving to be one of the more complicated paint schemes I've done. I've really had to figure out how I wanted to get the pattern on the cab. I debated on painting only the upper half of the cab and then using a decal for the red stripe... but decided to paint the red stripe on instead.

Either way- I'm using Dupli-Color base coat/clear coat system. Krylon and Testors goes on way to thick and runny (it will find a way under the mask!) for detailed work like two-tone paint.

Progress thus far...
- Base coat white is on the cab shell
- I've masked it in preparation for the coat of red paint
- Decals are in PPT and have been sized and test fitted to the cab

This paint scheme is proving to be verrrry difficult to get right with the masking and such.

Thanks Ken- I'll have to try that.

I think it was the tape. The blue masking tape from 3M works pretty good... just not so good over really small details. Around the small details- it just lets a little paint past it. I'll see if I can't get some of the neon green tape that body shops use for ghost flames and stuff.

For now, the BJ and the Bear theme is on hold.
