I was searching Modeltrainsyard.com for gilbert cars, and ran across this Wabash caboose, like my Gilbert Erie Bayola caboose in another thread - you gotta be kidding ME?! $144 ?! Yah! Right. Here's a link -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120635389917
Maybe I should finish stripping mine, and put it up on Ebay. LOL. Wow. But these bayola type caboose are not common.

Agreed derfberger. I have 2 of there S engines, 4-6-2 and a 4-4-2. chug/smoke was a great fearure, epescially the puffing smoke was better than any Lionel at the time. I have 2 HO 0-6-0's. I'll share all 4 one day.

This is an early "sidewinder" Gilbert Hudson. It has a permanent magnet in place of the normal field coil. I don't know if this was an after market conversion or factory issued.

Hey Buss ! * Your new photos are much better. Lots of detail is shown on that old Gilbert operating hopper. Good work there Buss. * You can see those Gilbert trucks. They stick out. Modelers remember that At the Gilbert sell out auctions, Varney got all the remaining Freight trucks. Many old Varney cars with sold with these trucks on them. I still have a few I haven't removed the trucks from. Gilbert truck side frames are very unique. And the notched center screw hole underneath also marks these trucks. They also have their Gilbert stock number cast into them. frank

Derf, some railroads painted whitewalls on their steamers, but the AF/Gilbert whitewalls have much thicker stripes than you'll find on any prototype. They are actually part of the plastic insulator ring that separates the tire from the wheel center, just like their S gauge locos.

I just picked up this HO GILBERT AMERICAN FLYER #155 0-6-0 Steam Locomotive PRR 0-6-0 from 1949. Unlike the later models that have the painted on #s, the 155 is actually cast into the side of the cab.
It came with a parts value Rivarossi Big boy / Challenger tender. Inc s/h I paid ~$18 total for both:

I can not say for sure how many I have but it is probably over 8-10 by now. This one just came with a bunch of stuff on Tuesday. I do like the track cleaner car too, but only have 1 of those.

Hey, I know it's an old post but what drive is under that Lackawanna F3? I have a shell and I'd like to round up the right chassis for it. Some had Marx and some had Varney, the shell is Varney, neither one is that easy to come by these days though.

** "Route of the Silver Meteor" is a good one. The Seaboard looks great for a 60 year old box car. I am positive about finding one of them someday. The fun is in the looking. Thanks for sharing. Maybe tomorrow at the Greenberg, train show in Edison New Jersey. frank

** The oldest and the only different PRR B6 that Gilbert had made. As Sean pointed out , the number 155 is raised and will always be there. Also the tender trucks, unsprung, solid, are a one of a kind. Only used on this the #155. All the others Gilbert made are of their standard type, fully sprung, with sloted screw holes for the bronzed electrical pickup on the tender trucks. frank

The car is in really good shape. All the corner steps are intact and the paint looks good except for a chipped spot at the end of the "SEABOARD" reporting mark and a blemish on the herald, both visible in the pic.
