Saturday one of my buddies went to a nearby garage sale and found a large plastic tub filled with both S as well as HO trains and accessories. The American Flyer is from either 1949 or 1950 and is #290 Steam. The Gilbert Book has a copyright date of 1949. There are also 5 freight train cars. The Tyco HO set appears to be from 1984 and the A-Team set. It has 7 cars, several of which were added.
Also, among the various buildings, etc are both S and Tyco HO, including two Tyco lighted buildings that do not appear to have ever been out of the box.
Some pictures are here:

Oh, the newest item is some Tyco race car track - still in the package. Any takers for this item? (Ben?)
Cheers Bill

Yeah, seriously. Microbusss would be begging for the A team set if he looked here.

Thanks for the video. I'm so sorry now that none of the extras from the set were in the tub that was purchased.

Great video, DaCheez! It even has that 1980's feel to it just like the show.

Geez, I haven't watched that in a while. That's the definition of cheezy right there.
Awesome finds, cicsos! I don't have any S scale equipment, but if I stumbled upon a set like that at a garage sale I'd probably be hanging on to it.

Since I've got a grandson who will be old enough in a few years, I expect that I'll be holding on to this one, especially if I can clean it up and make it work.
I had a set when I was a youngster, but don't know what happened to it after I went off to college.
I do expect that I'll have to get new track.
Cheers Bill

Today I cleaned up the AF engine, oiled and greased as per the detailed instructions in the 1949 book, checked the old power supply to see if it still worked ... and tested the engine and tender - but nothing worked. I removed the case from the tender and found that one of the wires had broken loose. It looked liked it had been repaired at least once before. I applied power to the motor by using the spots where the power from the track came in ... and it jerked a bit, but that is all.
So, this grand old lady now has a place on my shelve in the sun room along with her five cars and three houses for all to see and admire. After all, she is 63 or 64 years old, so she deserves a dignified retirement.
I appreciate everyone's comments and encouragements.
Cheers Bill
