Hey all,

I picked these up when I first got back into railroading. They were pretty rough, and I've already stripped, cleaned, and repainted them in PRR colors. I have the decals, but when I couldn't come up with trucks for them, they went back on the shelf for another day..

Anyway...

I airbrushed Tamiya Smoke to darken the windows(no interiors, no lighting), but my biggest problem is I'm not sure what kind of trucks to put on these

Do they take 6 wheel trucks? If so, what type? 4 wheel trucks just don't seem big enough

I've been on eBay many time looking for trucks, but I'm just not sure what to buy, so there they sit

Help

Cheers, Ian

Ken,

Sure, I've seen trucks on eBay, I'm just not sure what kind to buy.

I don't want to buy something only to find out I bought the wrong thing.

I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction

Cheers, Ian

Hey:

Virtually all the real things had 6 wheel trucks to support fairly long cars but also to improve the ride for the passengers.

Notice where Ken says the baggage had 4 feel trucks well if you think about it that makes sense since they wouldn't need to ride as softly.

Btw; some express reefers and bocars rode on 6 wheel trucks to allow for better tracking at high speed in passenger trains for very perishable commodities.

Ken,

thanks for the link

G,

Makes sense. Who would want to ride in a bumpy railcar

Hey Ian. AHM/Rivarossi/IHC never had the pop-off roofs like that. The underside details are different too. Your cars are actually made my a company called Con-Cor. As far as I know Con-Cor is still in production, so this may make it a little easier for you to find parts. Here's a pic for you. The trucks should be 4-wheels.

Rivarossi produced a lot of HO and N scale trains for Con-Cor over the years, including those streamliners. The snap-off single piece roof / window glazing casting was their trademark. Con-Cor may own the tooling now since RR went under if they're still in production.

Hi Ian. The Cars you have are AHM/Rivarossi/IHC. They have the roofs that can be removed so you can put the interiors in. One car is a Rivarossi 1930's style you can see the R logo on the bottom. The Shorter Obs car is a Con-cor car . They both use 4 wheel trucks like the ones Ken posted.
I have many passenger cars, as Passenger Trains are one of my favorites to collect. I have cars in PRR all Eras and Styles, Norfolk & Western Powhaten Arrow both the dull finish and the gloss, NYC Lightning Stripe Both Silver and White stripes, Plus some I do not remember. Soon, when winter sets in, I will have to take pictures and Catalog all the cars

Wow, I really need to pay attention when I work on my trains. I've disassembled plenty of AHM cars. My bad

Hi Ian. Kadee makes a coversation kit. #508 4 wheel truck and #505 6 wheel truck. McHenry makes a replace coupler that fit in place of the original... McHenry also makes other couplers for other cars like IHC and Con-Cor... Carl
