This is a Tyco Union Pacific EMD E-7 "City of San Francisco". It needed cleaning, one brush spring, and new traction tires and now runs flawlessly. I have always loved the long diesels and was glad to find these two (see below).

This is a Tyco New Haven EMD E-7 that I just picked up (along with the above pictures Union Pacific E-7) at an antique mall at the bargain price of $5.00 each. This one ran great but needed a headlight bulb, which I replaced today. I'm playing around with some LEDs as replacements for the original bulbs, but I replaced this one with a new incandescent bulb. It still needs a front coupler. I like to use brand new couplers when I can-the springs are usually worn out on used ones-and I have some coming from Bowser, but they're not here yet.

Hey, a6m5zerosen:
Look at the title of this thread....it says APRIL 2010. I know why too...I bet you copy/pasted from the format suggestion on the forums page and forgot to change the Apr to Sep. I've done it a few times myself. Just log in and edit your first post.

Ditto, shaygetz. If I had a brute like that, I'd hit it with chrome and a red Warbonnet to make a 21st century Silver Streak!
My LOTW is my latest digital consist, a Bachmann FT-AB set:
These B&O engines were full of surprises, the most unexpected being that each probably weighs almost twice as much as my old Bachmann F9! When combined with the FT's reasonable detail, excellent smoothness and quiet operation, it all adds up to a pretty impressive model. I like 'em lots.

While organizing my HO stuff, I got out this model this morning, and ran thru the HOSeeker website looking for the particulars. Looks like it's a '63 Tyco model 4-6-0 Switcher, I printed off the parts list and pics, but there's no '63 Catalog, and it doesn't show up in the 62 or 64 catalogs online. Anyway, haven't tried to run it yet on track, but hooking power up to it at my keyboard, it does run nicely and the headlight even works. Needs a new cab, coal load, and fix the wire that's bent. Otherwise a decent little engine. Guess I'll look for parts from Bowser to see if they have them.

I just restored a similar unit. Bowser should have nearly everything you need-go to http://www.yardbirdtrains.com/YBMspecs.htm and click on the 4-6-0 Rodgers diagrams. Looks like you're missing a smokebox support and a motor cover, too.

My LOTW is an A-B set I picked up at the flea market Saturday. I've been collecting all the different Santa Fe paint schemes, and this one has eluded me for a while. I thought with it being an Athearn that it wouldn't be much to get it running....but three days and a lot of frustration later I found that not to be true. It's an early F7 with no flywheels, and the metal frames on the power trucks were all bent out of shape...but I finally got it going:

Now I've got to fix the horns that I painted the wrong shade of yellow, and find some detail parts for the trucks, but at least it runs. Now I just need to find the yellow/silver version.

Blimey, a couple of Kato's for under a fiver! They sure look like they mean business. Remind me to go bargain hunting with you, catfordken, if ever I'm in the old country.
Hey microbusss, good to hear your UP B-unit will soon be fully wheeled! Repost a picture when the new truck is fitted.
