wife wanted me to go to an estate sale to look at a table. Went down to the basement there was a box full of H O stuff along with a small oval layout. It was the last day of the sale so made a low ball offer for the box and got it.
For reasons unexplained most the cars missing couplers and the body separated from the base, easily fixed
Lots of figures, trees, signs. Not sure what I'll do with a 3 story building
Two questions:
1. Never seen a 12 wheeled passenger car before. No use to me as too long and just one doesn't fit my operation and looks weird with my other shorter rolling stock
2. I tried one of the small lights. It lit for a second , smoked and went out. Could these be 1.5 V battery operated?

That's a great find! 12 wheels on a passenger car is pretty standard. Many of them have the couplers on the trucks, so they'll take 18 radius curves. As for the lights, I think you just got a bad one.

Shall I ask the dumb question now - did you hook it up to accessory voltage, or track voltage? Jerry

O K regarding the light, so now i am really confused.
I asked the guy at the Hobby sHOP I understand variable D C for operating the train and fixed A C for accessories but what's the Fixed D C for. He said some prefer tot use it for accessories. In checking with a multi meter the Accesories reads 16.27 V and the D C 14.7 V. D C or A C shouldn't matter with a light , a volt is a volt especially since they are only 1.5 V different
Any idea on the maker? Should be on the bottom somewhere
here is a pic of the bottom. also took it apart. Nothing. Note it is rusted and missing a place for a coupler. If still interested i'm willing to trade
same with the passenger car that is missing couplers

Pretty sure that car is an Athearn kit.
Your transformer is the same one I use. Like I said above, I run all my lights from the AC accessories terminals. I still think you just got a bad light. The bulb probably worked loose and let the wires touch.

Hey Derfberger, Let me know what you may want in trade for either/both of those cars. I can use both! The box car looks very "Athearny" to me.
