Asked the guy at the hobby shop what he wanted for it when I pulled this from a box of junk. He said $10. As he saw me start to put it back, he said, "Tell ya what, if it runs, you give me 10, if it don't, I'll take 5." I said, "You're on..."
I won--and--it runs great...

Being Practical.
I just am not happy with my Digital camerea shooting inside. I need to build a diorama for photo's. Right now that little railcrossing and the "Blue Bin" is the best I have.
Not the first time I've done this. Over a year ago a couple of times. Those bins are a good height for this.

You must have read my mind, romcat! Here's the picture I was going to post today:

I got it in a lot at an auction this summer. Took some work, but it runs pretty good now. Can anybody tell me about it?

Nice Find. What you have is Athearn LiL Monster 0-4-2T Switcher. Made for a few Years in the early 1960s. Athearn Made 3 attempts to make a Steam engine Fleet. But, None really ran or sold well. Lots of trouble with the drive gears breaking. The 0-4-2T was about the only one ran pretty well. Look in the Athearn section for other posts about them. Carl

Hey Guys:
Love the Athearn "L`il Monster" I have two. Both have the little plastic piece below the boiler/cab mounting tab holes broken or cracked. I'll have to reinforce both. I love `em and they are not fictional. Ray Marinaccio sent me a photo of the prototype a while back...

Pretty Cool! GO NAVY!!!

Thanks for the info about the "Little Monster" guys! I'm really happy with it. When I first got it, it was completely dead. But, after a very thorough cleaning and lube it runs nice. Mine also has one of the mounting holes cracked, so the shell is loose. Someday I'll try to fix it, but for now it works good enough.
Shaygetz--nice story with the little switcher. I've found that "dead" locos can be great bargains, and often they come right back to life with only a little TLC.

This is the Bell Telephone Tyco industrial switcher I picked up at a recent train show. These little locos were very well built.

Here's two 4-wheel diesel Hustlers I just got thru Ebay, $4.92 plus 10 shipping for 5 engines, the Bicen shell, 8 cars, and misc. parts. Not a bad deal! So I'll double down on the LOTW with these two, ones a MS&L Lionel gear-drive, the other a band drive #57.

Wow, I didn't even know there was such a thing as an 0-4-2. Nifty! Erich's OBB 688 Glaskasten is kind of quirksome. I think I like it a lot... maybe... yes, definitely.
LoopnHook, your Consolidation is stunning and the photo comparison is quite amazing. I'm sad to hear you're under the weather and hope you're on the mend soon. Then you can post some more of your splendid billboard cars because they are all kinds of awesome.

Here's my new arrival--A LifeLike Proto 2000 FA-1 and FB-1 in Frisco colors. Both units came new in the box, and even the B unit is powered. I can't believe I got it for a total of $43, which INCLUDED the shipping!
