I have two perfectly good Tyco switches except the motors have broken off.
I see no way to make another type of motor to work. The Tyco slide and whisker are inside the machine housing. An Atlas type has the whisker outside.
any ideas

DB, You could try to reattatch them with JB Quik,it's a 2 part heavy duty epoxy that works very well. Or you could toss 'em and get some that work. Jes sayin'.

I agree. If you can't glue/epoxy it back together, then just get another switch. It's not worth the hassle.

Depending on how the break affects the mechanics of it, and if you're worried about glue getting inside and stopping it, you should try simple bathroom silicone sealer to hold it together. The nice thing about that is, if you get it misaligned, you can pull off the silicone and start over. Another good option is a hot glue gun. Same principle, you can remove the glue easier than others, as it hardens into a semi-rigid material, if a mistake is make, it's easier to clean up and start over. These two methods would work BEST if just using to hold the broken off housing in place, not trying to get the broken edges to seal like with glue. The visual won't be pretty, but if you're not worried about that, hot glue or silicone is a good way to go. You can get a cheap hot glue gun for $10 or under at a craft store with the sticks included. Hot glue dries and hardens in seconds, whereas the silicone would require set-up time. For what you're doing, I'd suggest investing in a hot glue gun, it will also work on scenery foam and trees to hold them in place quickly, if you're working with small enough pieces. The hot glue wouldn't work with big pieces of foam, as the glue would dry too quick to get it all on one piece before slapping them together. But for small quick work, it's be ideal. Just some thoughts....

sure, but i forgot to mention that the engines are shot, so gluing not the problem.
It's how to attach an Atlas type motor to the switch.
Here is a quote from another forum """"i had a pair of tycos (some time ago however...) nothing to unique, they do have a throw bar, even if it goes inside the housing. this bar can be cut off or snapped off to detach. after that any machine, solenoid or slow motor can be rigged to """
all well and good but don't see how i can get an Atlas type machine with whisker to attach to the Tyco throw

Disconnect the tyco mechanism and do what you need to mount the switch machine under the layout board. You layout track will still apear to be all TYCO then. \ frank

I have one Tyco #410 left hand switch, bad track good motor. You're welcome to it if it'll help you, pay the freight and it's yours. Will ship pony express to keep cost down. Let me know if you want it.
