Anyone have a good source for layout ideas.
I've exhausted our library and the internet and haven't found anything that excites me.
I'm a mountains and lakes person not an operational person so switch yards and turn tables not my thing. Would like to run 2 trains but not with DCC which is beyond my budget
I've spent hours doodling and erasing but just can't get something that turns me on
thanks in advance

Hey Fred:
Hope the Librarians at your Library recover!?
I can start sending you stuff as attachments, but go to the "Trainplayer" site first and look at the sample layout there.
http://www.trainplayer.com/Site3/Track%20Plans.html
Pay particular attention to the George Baustert Gallery. He's is a friend now deceased who had some unconventional ideas.
The first "Q" after scale, for me; would be continous run, or end to end?
Good luck!

Part of the challenge of designing a layout is A) your available space and B) what type of operations you prefer, Industrial, long-haul freight or passenger, coal or wood, narrow gauge, etc. Most train operations set up in the most economical way for their operations and space permitting. So you first need to determine what you're interested in, then whether it'll fit the space you HAVE, and then trying to make it work from there. Since you have such limiting radius , obviously 85' passenger cars won't be high on your list of realistic operations. Again, you can always fake it with a going-to-nowhere section of track and just run it thru one side and out the other. Not as satisfying as a circle or P-to-P, but allows some creativity for operations. Since each layout is unique, looking at other designs helps, but in the end, it's what you have available and how you use it that determines the final configuration. Again, start "small", and don't get overly ambitious on your first project/layout. Keep it simple then move up from there. You can always rip up track and start over if you want to make it more complex and detailed later. Or, move to N gauge. LOL. Anyway, have fun ( main thing! ), and don't stress it. It's supposed to be a FUN hobby!

i took it easy on them. Actually did it all on the internet searching the entire county system and having them sent to the nearest one to me to be put on hold. No need to bother a librarian

Very useful sites, guys. I've bookmarked them so if I ever get my train room the spare room back, I'll have an excellent starting point for my layout. Cheers.
