Christmas in July: The Los Angeles Limited.
When IHC folded, I eagerly snapped up several dealer selected sets in the crazy clearance sales that followed for the more I bought - the bigger the discount. This Union Pacific passenger pack tops my favourites featuring a dependable 2-10-2, a half dozen heavyweight cars along with two useful building kits including Arlee; a proper railway station that's almost Tyco to boot! The "free" metal wheels are less a bonus and more a necessity judging by past experience but that's quibbling. Overall, I rate the IHC LA Ltd: 10 out of 10.
Now if you'll excuse me, I've a new train set in a cosy room on a cold and gloomy afternoon - perfect weather for playing with trains!

Thanks, microbusss. Soon I'll have as many trains as you! Well, not that soon perhaps. It's interesting seeing the old buildings released by other companies but I'm trying to think of kits exclusive to Tyco. The sawmill & lumber yard was one, do you know of any others?
That vintage set is awesome in its awesomeness, tayco! I consider '59 to be Tyco's breakout year and the Mammoth set the best of a pretty neat lineup. Is it for display only or does it get a spin now and then? How does the Mikado run?
My regret is an IHC 2-8-2 and Athearn freight car set I tried to get but when I went back it had sold. He who hesitates and all that.
Burlington Bullet, great name! What type of BN diesel would that be?

No tykowolf I do not run any of my boxed sets....I am lucky enough to have a couple of loose Mikados and Pacifics if I get the urge to run something old....I did run my 1959 Canadian Pacific Passenger set when I got it....what a hassle getting that thing back in the boxes without ripping the cellophane !!!
That M.O.T.R. set was purchased from a member of this forum....it is probably my most prized set next to my "pre production" Tyco 1860 Centennial Set.

That's cool, taycotrains. I'm glad there are some folks preserving a little Tyco history for newcomers and oldtimers alike. Has anyone thought of setting up a Tyco museum? There would have to be at least nostalgia value in it if nothing else.
If next week you can spare the time, please post a pic of your CPR set. That streamliner has always been a favourite of mine and no doubt of many others.
