On Tuesday evening, I had a snipe bid set for ebay auction 360270448913. This to no ones surprise was an NOS Bubble Yum truck & trailer in the box, Being a little short on cash this week I placed the weak $20.13 bid knowing that it was not enough to win. I was correct! The auction ended with one bid higher than mine... I lose!
Last night, I get a message from the seller which I recognized the username before I read the message. This was a "second chance offer" to buy the truck claiming the high bidder had lost his job and could not buy it. So I bought my 7th truck of it's kind. Kind of reverses that old saying that " I can't win for losing"...
I'm not sure how to cure my illness of buying Tyco Bubble Yum trucks & Fluorescent Light Poles...

Nice to be able to get it for cheaper than you think. I've only had a few 2nd chance offers, one time on a hot item I wanted, it came 5 SECONDS after the auction ended, so I knew it had a shill bidder raising the price. I didn't buy it, and the seller actually THREATENED me to leave bad feedback if I didn't buy? How?! LOL. I complained to Ebay, but they did nothing. They asked how I knew it was a shill bidder - Duh! 5 seconds after the auction ends, you get a 2nd chance? How's they know the first bidder couldn't pay? Stupid! That was back 6-7 years ago, when Ebay was not quite out of diapers yet.

I'd say getting married would PROBABLY do it. Or at least you'd get more "negative feedback" from your other half for buying more and more of the same thing. I went thru the same thing with AHM BL-2 engines and helium cars for awhile. I've probably got 20 of the BL-2's,and I"m sure over 10 of the Helium cars. Also the Tyco Autoloader car with Camaros and AMXs, I have 20 or more of those. I want to make a nice consist out of them, so you need multiples. You can justify it that way. After about a 100 or so ( Bubble Yum cars ), you might have a harder argument, since not many Tyco engines can pull that many.
Anyway, congrats on your unexpected good luck. I'll be trying to trade a table vice for some street lights from my junk box buddy this week. :) And maybe a lighted sign or two. :)

The good thing with those is, if they're missing the automobiles, you can usually get them cheap, ie $2-4 each. I've seen plenty never sell when they have no cars with them. But that's the draw, not much point in having them if you don't have the cars to go with them.

I didn't think this item come with a stamped box flap since it was a set piece. I don't remember the stamp on my other Bubble Yum truck boxes, but it very well may be on there... A pic of the two trucks that I have here with me..

SHILL BIDDING? You know, I've been thinking about this auction and it has alway had a little bad smell about it. It was several days after the auction closed that I got the following second chance offer to buy this Bubble Yum truck.
The following is a copy & paste from my ebay messages;
Dear waltjenny, TYCO TRAILER & CAB BUBBLE YUM #B998 NOS MINT IN BOX i can offer you this on a second chance the first person lost his job and we cancelled the aution, let me know if you are interested thanks - bellhobbys
BUT LONG AFTER I paid for the truck I looked on the auction and noticed that the original high bidder (who lost his job)was still bidding on allot of auctions!
Not directed totally at seller because the high bidder could have lied to him. Whatever the case, I'm not unhappy at all because I got what I bid on for a decent price. Had the original (or shill) bidder not bid this would have sold to me for around $15...
Just something to chew on i guess

How LONG ago was this? With the hidden bidder ID now, you can't even tell who's bidding against you anymore. So unfortunately,this seems to protect the seller and allows them to get away with Shill bidding, if they chose. Although, I will admit, when a seller had multiple items before, I'd contact another bidder and say I wouldn't bid up this unit, if you let me have the next one, if we were the only two bidders going at it, and I saved money on a few auctions like that, if we were collecting the same items. So maybe that was the reason for the hidden ID, don't know. At least your seller had the decency to wait a few days. LOL. Then again, some Sellers DO have problems with people just bidding on their items, and not paying. So it may be someone was just screwing around and doing that. Can't necessarily fault the Seller for that, but when a 2nd Chance Offer comes 5 SECONDS after the auction ends, and they threaten you if you don't pay, you know you've got fraud. Even if Ebay won't acknowledge it. Long as you're happy with the item and price as not unreasonable, you can let it go. It's always Buyer Beware, anyway. LOL

CVT, a shill bidder is when a seller on ebay has "more than 1 username/ account" and bids on his own items to drive up the price. One of my Bubble Yum truck auctions was a shill as I received a second chance purchase notice five minutes after the auction closed.
