This is a recent find at a train show. It's a Cox GP9 and it's NOS/MIB. If you haven't run one of these they really sound and are engineered similar to the MU2 GP20s, even with a similar growl as they run at slow speeds. Nice paint and stamped metal handrails.

I likes that T1 ken But I think they could of made it into a 4-8-4 instead Unless the PRR has tighter curves than the West do

| I had a Bowser T! that ran well but it yawed from side to side - waddled like a duck. I understand the real ones did the same thing. That's a nice looking model of an interesting locomotive.

Have not testet its pulling power, but I think it will pull well with the extra weight of the diecast Boiler. - Erich

My loco is more in line with Alco Fan's. Here's a Life Like GP38-2 from the last flea market:

This looks like it was never run, but it was in an older box with a caboose. Runs great...or as great as any Life-Like.
The only thing I don't like is the sticker on the nose--it's printed rather "chunky" and isn't quite straight.

Interesting find, Alco Fan. Do you have a shot of that GP9 with the shell off? I'm curious what the motor & drive look like.

Nice acquisition, Ken. You have some stumps in the yard that need pulling?

NKP,, No I haven't taken it apart yet but it has a front mounted cast bogey in similar fashion to the MU2 and a separate rear bogey. It also has slots on the side like tycos and made in Hong Kong. It's not a copy but just close in engineering. Burlington 77, Thanks for showing your LL Geep, gotta love the war bonnet.

Tony cook has some good info on that Cox GP9m. Seems Cox took an Athearn GP7/9 and gave it a chop-nose. That is why it is a wide body ala early Athearn locos. Odd that Cox oppted not to use the Athearn frame/mechanism. I have cut down an AHM GP18 chassis to fit under the Cox shell.
I think the cox shell was "borrowed" on more then one occassion. I think the Walthers GP9m and the same loco from Model Power are VERY similiar to the Cox shell.
