The steam engine you saw in October 13 post was manufactured by Bachmann Industries under their Spectrum Division Kris. This next view show Penn Central metroliner units at a stop in Tyrone Pennsylvania during a weekday run.
Reliable and fast.

Always did like those PC Metroliners. Took the Amtrak Metroliner a few times to NYC. Fabulous ride. I wonder if the Amtrak ones were former PC's.

Penn Central metroliners were painted in Amtrak colors years later Jeff. Amfleet coaches which followed are shown in these next photos.
East bound Pennsylvanian ready to depart Tyrone Pennsylvania.
Hours later a west bound Pennsylvanian arrives at the same station.

Someone has been speeding again. Union Pacific crane set on hand for recovery work. The railroad crew have a long day ahead lifting derailed cars back on to usuable track. Location is at Blue Springs Missouri near a set of sharp curves with speed restrictions.
Will be days before section of tracks are repaired. Detours will be in effect during that time.

A most unique MOW car. Speaking of speeding, this F unit is fresh out of the Altoona shops awaiting assignment.
There she goes, off with a hot load of tankers bound for Hackensack, NJ
 And goes, picking up speed...
The dispatcher was hard pressed for power on this C-Liner/GP 20 consist

In Cheyenne, a turbine idles (Stanley Ball). Better not idle for long, these monsters are fuel gluttons.

Nice turbine. Is that the Conrail you posted that has the freshly installed MU-2 in it?
Bachmann's Spectrum line is great. I love their older stuff. Good detail and it's super cheap.

Yes, Kristofer. You pointed me in the right direction, and that CR is one of the first locomotives that got its motor replaced with an MU. Thanks! She had sat for a couple of years on the shelf while I tried to figure out what to do, and now she is back on the rails.
I can't recall where I got that Bachmann FP, but it does the trick. Road behind a unit like that from Springfield, Massachusetts to Bridgeport, Connecticut, and from there under wire to Washington, D.C., and from there to San Francisco by way of LA. That was in 1985 on a $300 unlimited rail pass. Would that I could I think I would have used it to traverse ever line Amtrak ran over!
The turbine belongs to my friend, Stanley Ball.

Always interesting photos of the various railroad equipment you saw Jeff. Always look forward to more train movements. These next photos were shot at Helmsway Farms on one of the various curves near beautiful Topeka Kansas.
Hidden from view is a ground cut to separate the animals from the tracks by the farms.

Dramatic photo of nature in action Jeff. Hope no one got hurt by her fury. This photo shows a quiet setting with the occasional trolley unit doing her rounds for the many commuters of this Pittsburgh suburb on a sunny day.

For the lightening effect a perfect storm of a poor quality camera, and unsteady hand, and bad focus, truth be told. One of the boons of digital photography is that you can take a jillion pictures, whereas in the days of film one had to calculate the cost of every frame. Some of my favorite shots are pure out takes.
I think I snapped this one as I was tripping over an electrical cord, or some such.

Still upset that the Dodgers basically gave up but its nice to see the Cubs and Indians go at it in the classic. Wouldn't mind either team but kind of pooling for the tribe a bit more.

When I was a kid we had a girder and panel set, hand me down, from some older cousins. That particular set had come with a monorail. It still had the monorail car and the buildings, but not the track. As I recall, the set was called Skyrail.

Very interesting boxcars, I've not seen a "Pickem'" before. The station is quite impressive. My friend Harald's GG1 would probably feel more at home there. In nearby Hackensack I saw my first, and only GG1 in revenue service in 1975. Needless to say, it was captivating.
