This weekend for me was four days, so it seemed like a good opportunity to build something. I've wanted to make something like this for a while, and after seeing Shagetz's dioramas I thought I'd give it a try.
All I was going for was a simple snowy scene that I could use outdoors for pictures. There are a few more details that will be added, but for the most part it's ready to go.

My front steps weren't the best spot for pics. There's a field across the street that should work a little better. I'll go over there tomorrow and see how it works. Here's what I took today:

I'm liking those power lines...well the whole thing to be honest!
I'd love to know what you made the snow out of!

Cheez, you're so lucky to have VIA trains running right down your street... er, wait a minute, you mean that's a diorama?!
Seriously, nice job, and it's amazing the way your poles blend right into the background. It was only after looking at the first shot again that I realized they weren't across the street.

| Great Cheez! Mentally I keep planning what I wouldn't mind doing. It swings wildly from day to day which is a bad thing. Mainly because I have several different size bases I can start from just laying around. But yours blends so well its shocking for its size how well it worked out!

Thanks for the comments! To answer some of the questions:
Mike: The engine is Life-Like and the combine is a Walthers. Kinda funny how the car cost more than the engine
MM: The snow is made of baking soda (I borrowed Shaygetz's idea ). It isn't rock hard, but it seems to be sticking ok as long as it's not banged around too much. I plan on trying some of the Woodland Scenics snow in the future.
As for the powerlines, I coated some poles in a water-glue mixture and then sprinkled baking soda over them. Very pleased with how they turned out.
A couple more pics taken in the field (Tyco F9 + Rivarossi cars):

It looked real to me too, despite knowing a CNR F7 wouldn't pull a passenger train in Canada in winter without a Steam generator car for creating heat in the coaches....
Outstanding work Cheez, I'd say SMURFY!!!

My layout back in 1984 or 1985 - my first snow cover attemp - used the spray snow - made my card board streets bow up and messed up a few cars as it left a film on them when removed. Was cool though. Did slightly damage my buildings too as it left spots in plastic. The can said not to use on plastic etc and test - i didn't though - I was 12 or 13 when i did this - to get the tire tracks in street -pushed a car on them while snow was wet out of can.
My small town snow scene 1984 or 1985 - Vehicles - Matchbox - structures pictured - Life Like Hampton fire - Woodlawn Police - Bank - Tyco Dougs Drug -split Level - Bachmann - Bachmann ped overpass - Tyco Arlee station

That looks pretty cool Brian. It's always fun to see toy trains/layouts in different seasons. Did the spray on snow look realistic? I'd love to do a full winter layout at some point, but the snow would be a challenge. Baking soda looks good but doesn't always stick well...I'm curious how well the Woodland Scenics stuff works
Thanks AF. Just a fun little project I did last year
MB: I was originally planning to put a little more detail on...can't remember now why I didn't I still have this thing...maybe I'll pull it out again and take some more pics

| Cheese -the spray snow looked very real -can't remember which brand i used. I sprayed it into the air at that time and let it fall. The layout was 4X8 and i think i used 3 cans as i wanted it deep. To get blown effect on buildings - just spray close to structure. - i don't know if they have changed formula -but the cans i used had a warning about using on plastics - could damage. The only damage i had was some spot stains -clear in color. I also used baking flour one time -worked really well and looked real too and is cheaper than spray snow - i remember paying 79 cents for a 1lb bag of it
