Hello all,
Here is one of my favorite Tyco kitbash projects, I think it turned out quite well. I started with a Tyco wood reefer shell which I stripped and re-detailed. I removed all of the molded on grab irons and replaced them with wire grabs and I added a more prototypical brake wheel. I repainted the shell with an airbrush using Accuflex paints. I then replaced the Tyco underframe with a fishbelly underframe made by Accurail. I highly recommend mating Tyco shells to Accurail underframes to simplify installation of Kadee couplers and to enhance the overall appearance of these cars (Tyco purists please forgive me). The car rolls on Walthers trucks, is lettered with Champ Decals, and weathered with colored powder chalk.

That's beautiful work. This doesn't compare, but I've been wanting to show this off in CotW for a while.

I got it for a couple bucks at a show, but managed to break the railings on the way home. After some frustration and super glue, it's ready to roll.

Hi Screnchin!
I like to make a similar car like yours. What number are your champ decals. Do you know a Internet source for them? thanks - Erich

Erich,
I purchased my decals directly from Champ, I do not remember what the set number was but I do remember that they are specifically for wood sided reefers. For all I know Champ may still have these decals in stock.
Good Luck
